  1. Do they have the famous Hankook Silica Technology? "A tyre for drivers who care for there cars and the environment" Can it get any better? not only a co-sponsor but doin there bit for the environment... Great work Schwabby & Co.. they really are making the right moves...
  2. Silly boy, just after he shows some form against the swans (not sure about the lions match) and he breaks team protocol... I'm glad they are playing hard ball with him, and whoever else steps out of team protocol, we have to be united...
  3. So the club did start something with Hamish, least I'm not going crazy.. well that crazy anyhow.. Shame nothing has come of it as yet. titan, I agree that sponsorship is definately a bigger issue than membership at this point in time but the more memberships we have, the more attractive we become to a sponsor and it also will assist in finding the next generation of members which at this stage appears abit barren which will help secure our long term future. So it is quite important still. Also theres no reason that they can't multi-task, the membership/marketing department wouldn't be too busy sourcing a sponsor that would be left upto Schwab and Stynes to sort out... Hopefully something is in the pipeline, but seeing as this is the ideal time to be attracting new members I'm not predicting it will.
  4. Spot on Hoopla... Now for your next trick - predict our permanent major sponsor/s! Jumper looks good with red cross logo in the paper today, great way of raising more awareness for the red cross... No point letting the space go to waste and generates some good will & PR...
  5. Hey, Correct me if I'm completely wrong and I concocted this in my crazy mind, but wasn't Hamish Blake (annointed by G.Lyon himself on the footy show) now a fully fledged Melbourne supporter/member and was going to be involved in marketing the club to the younger generation? While I never listen to fox fm, hes is a ratings smash and one of the funniest blokes going around who has wide spread genuine appeal and I thought that this was going to be a great way to reach new members? So far I haven't seen anything utilising him? Pherhaps it was arranged before the board takeover and its not a direction we are going in? Anyone know whats going on here? redman
  6. Made the journey out to Casey Fields for the first time today, definately in the middle of no-where, but appears to be a football oasis in a barren desert with the facilities and lush ground top notch. The conditions would not have been easy for players with the temperature rising which may have caused the change to a 15 min 4th quarter. Combined with the smoke hazy ungulfing the city and not perfect but still good enough for pre-season football. Dunn - was BOG up until 1/2 time, kept finding the ball and hitting targets. Has bulked up somewhat. Wona - was electric, turning on a six pence time after time. As report has definately trimmed and toned that physique of his. Few nice grabs and goals thrown in for good measure. In the best for sure. Jetta - wow, great pace and kicked a cracker of a checkside goal in front of us. Has to play NAB cup. Bennell - showed glimpes, 5 min patch where he was everywhere. 2nd/3rd efforts were great. Bail - good size, used the ball well. deserves his spot. Should play a number of seasons as I think when a club recruits a mature (haha 20 yr old mature??) then its usually because they are ready to go imo. Bartram - had leather poisoning for most of the match, but his disposal can be either really good or really bad.. seems to kick up and under it a little too much. Zomer - impressed with his match, kicked some good goals and one was given to him from downfield but hes come on nicely considering he was in Sandy's twos at stages last season. Cheney - the big ranga was tough, will slot into the backline at sometime this year. Disposal was hit and miss but considering everyone was a little rusty, pardon the pun then i think it was a good showing. Sylvia - bobbed up here and there but not nearly enough for me, maybe hes just being cautious at this stage. Frawley - as reported has grown in size and his kicked definately had more accuracy and power.. and he has some dash so hopefully it translates into the season proper. Garland and Martin were good down back, continueing on last years performances. Spencer out pointed Meesen I thought, seemed to make the tapouts... pardon my french but Meesen just needs to get some [censored] about him. Harden up abit. Deserves a NAB start. Disappointed that Rivers went down so early, when will his injury nightmare end. Glad to hear its just a light sprain. Valenti was good, shame hes been put back onto the rookie list. Strauss has great disposal made the right moves and decisions will play at some point this season. No.22 for the red team not sure who it was looked good, had a feeling it was rhys healy but im not 100% sure. Mclean, Green, Bruce, McDonald all provided good service as expected. Jurrah's legs are like small little matchsticks, needs to hit the gym before we see him. Think we are assembling a good side for the future with a focus on pace, agility, good disposal and versatility which is the way the game is heading... Miller - very solid with a few mark and goals. McNamara definately didn't play, saw him on the side lines, sorry youami.. Newton showed bugger all..
  7. Judging by Barry Prendergasts comments in the Herald Sun (an insight into the demons decision making process), he mentioned that Bailey was disappointed we didn't pick up a competitive inside ball winner then I wouldn't be suprised if that was high on there wish list come PSD. A tall forward must be at least looked at thoroughly imo
  8. New Zealand are one eyed about there Rugby Union, it would struggle to capture enough of a paying crowd to make it worth the long flight over... Another market should be explored, but i'm with redlegger, getting a better stadium deal or our own boutique stadium is the way forward long term.
  9. Yeah, not everyone develops at the same rate as Chris Judd... sometimes players need time i.e. sam mitchell to really hit there straps... Thought he played pretty well yesterday, his kicking was for the most part good but on the odd occasion put the reciever in hot water but I like him and think this will give him alot of confidence... Good work CJ... Each time someone says I told you so, they don't tell you about the player they right off and in turn comes good... win some/ lose some...
  10. We replaced CC with Barry Prendergast back in January.. he was promoted from within the club...
  11. Really excited about yesterdays game, loved bates work.. he seemed to be everywhere. As it was mentioned earlier we could have done with another marking option up forward, hopefully newton can regain some fitness soon and force his way in. The defence was tighter than a ducks arse for the majority of the game, and few goals weren't due to specifc defensive mistakes ie daveys late hit/50 m penalty. Garland was good on franklin, and dropping the extra man in defence at times worked well, i mean Garland forced franklin out to the 50m line on the boundary which is great, but franklin still managed to kick the goal... what can you do!! I agree with Surfa, I thought we struggled alot when Jamar was in the ruck, especially in the 2nd half... to be fair he was a late inclusion for whitey and wasn't meant to play... I hope meesen starts to show something soon... Signs are good though...
  12. While he was better this week in the midfield I still wouldn't mind seeing Green playing up forward alot more. He can take a mark and is still a reliable and accurate kick for goal... I personally think he has more value as a forward than a midfielder. Could he be an option? obviously not a KPP but another option none the less..
  13. I'm a redlegs member, thought the good access to finals tickets was a good enough reason... clearly not required this season
  14. After reading that article its made me even more impressed, mcnamee has gone out of his way and surveyed the surrounding areas to find out the real plight of the club and how he would go about fixing it... good stuff.. Im really excited about the off field team we have in place now... nervous, but excited... anyone else?
  15. Hutchy mentioned on SEN this morning that he thinks McNamee is the front runner. I think all three sound promising. McNamee has a big profile, has dealt in obtaining large corporate sponsorship. Fox - has learnt from one of if not the best in the biz and part of a recent premiership. Conlon - has been around footy, and is the GM of part of a large international brand. McNamee is a close one for me....
  16. Just because they don't herald from a AFL background doesn't mean they aren't open to new sports! The irish aren't brought up on it but some of them are even coming here to play the sport.. The chinese are well known for being fanatical supporters so if we were to get some supporters it would most likely bring it extra funds from purchasing merchandise etc... and who knows if the students were to stay in Australia long term then Melbourne would be there adopted club and may upgrade to a full membership... I do agree with you though in terms of finding imaginitive ways of re-signing lost members from previous seasons... your right on the money there weedster!
  17. Matthew Leuenberger is my bet, showed some real quality late last year... Morton is the best melbourne value bet, likely to play earlier than the rest. Can't comment on the others without seeing them in the flesh... Anyone rate Hawkins chances?
  18. http://www.realfooty.com.au/news/news/demons-ripe-for-new-season/2008/01/17/1200419973291.html While I agree with the fact that the players should have the right to select/vote in the people they see as the most effective leaders within the club, surely the coaching staff would be keen on getting some more young blood in there. As Stephen Rielly states in this article (see above) pherhaps selecting Nathan Jones was an oversight? and I agree get both Mclean and Jonesy in there to learn close at hand whats required!! Time will tell...
  19. I just wanted to take the time to say Merry Christmas & A Happy New Year to everyone at Demonland. And wish everyone a safe and enjoyable holiday! I'd also like thank everyone here for a their contribution throughout the year which has kept me informed and amused. I Look forward to more banter and heated discussion in 2008 Lets hope Santa brings us a competitive and successful year!! All the best redman
  20. http://www.afl.com.au/Season2007/NABAFLRis...82/Default.aspx The telecast I don't think has started, but Im listening to SEN through the AFL website
  21. I definately realise Diablo, having Hyypia as our only decent cover for Agger has hurt us. Hyypia is just about gone imo, I agree we have missed Agger's timing and delivery is vital to the teams setup, not to mention the odd long range cracking goal! Rafa needs to purchase some backup in January or else it could be a tough end of the campaign. A big 8-0 midweek plus a 2-0 win thanks to some torre's brilliance and hopefully we can build on that. How good was Cahill's goals overnight? absolute belter!
  22. I think Sampi would be a low risk Hes 23 and only stopped playing due to personal issues not lack of ability... Appears to have the determination to turn his life around, keen to move interstate to change his lifestyle whether he plays footy next year or not. Will play for minimum wage, slightly above that of a 3rd round pick.. again proves hes keen again just to play. If hes available in the psd then hes worth a shot...
  23. Now thats a road I didn't like walking down late at night!! The mighty reds stole the 3 points from the lads down the road at Goodison Park... good times! Strange to see Rafa take off Stevie G for playing with too much passion... I think he was just resting him
  24. The rolls royce of football Plenty of silk, beautiful to watch, could hit targets off a step... Not sure what to feel, nervous about what he might finally turn into... Thanks for your 10 year service to the Red & Blue!
  25. Possibly, The Ox on SEN this afternoon alluded to the fact that Trapper perhaps didn't keep the best company off field. That isn't ideal for keeping your focus 100% on footy, although he hadn't been at the club for about 5 years he had heard similar Stories. And then went onto say that if it was purely football related then he wouldn't have been moved on... where theres smoke ... then often is fire...
