I agree with your basic premise, but I tend to to disagree that Riley (maybe), Tyson, Viney, Salem and Kent wouldn't make a difference. Compared to the weekend, I think they would make a big difference - precisely because they allow vanders, Brayshaw, Vince and Jonesy to get off the ball for a while. I think you'll find that M Jones spent some time going through the middle on the weekend as well.
-
Yeah I tend to agree. I'm not as doomsday as some, the scoring came in clumps and in the first half very late, and I reckon it is tied to a couple of blokes falling off the pace. With the lack of depth in the midfield a lot falls to very few. If one of them starts dropping off then the domino effect of one dropping off, another trying to cover and then his man gets free etc (that roos referred to) starts to play out. People talk of trying to counteract their run, but we had runners on the weekend and they couldn't go with them. So focus on keeping it inside, or preventing easy disposals out of the stoppages. Tyson should help here, as will Viney. I want another in there. In: Tyson, Riley Out: Bail, Jones/Fitz (think Fitz may be required for the match up of Grundy if he goes forward. McDonald to Cloke, Dunn to White, Fitz to Grundy).

MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION - Round 9

Switch Howe with Fitz and I reckon you have it! -
Wouldn't really surprise me to see Viney with the vest, straight swap for Riley in the last q. He can come on and just rip in, build up to fitness. Tell you what, Riley, vandenBerg, Jones, Brayshaw, Viney... talk about being hard around the contest!

MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION - Round 8

Tyson Salem Viney Petracca Kent Frost Kennedy-Harris Jetta Jesus. Talk about undermining development. -
Jesus this an insane thread. The season's barely begun for gods sake. Go and have an icecream or watch the sunset people.

They can chase and tackle, but can they chase down someone faster or tackle someone stronger? I think that's the issue. The idea that they can't be bothered doesn't hold water for me.
-
Frustrating as hell, but some people just heal differently. Hearing that injury report really reminds you of how stretched we are at the moment. Frost, JKH, Salem, Viney, Kent, Hogan were all in the 22 that won rd 1 and I think we'd all agree they're our future. Was forgetting about Frosty, puts our Ruck crisis in a bit of perspective.. I know they want him to fill that role too. Said it after the game but I might as well say it again here. That list includes our best distributor from D50, our best inside mid this year, our best fwd defender and our best tall forward. Its no wonder we're getting pumped.

11 tackles by Reilly!! I love seeing a stat like that, give him a shot, particularly if viney isn't back.
-
Very deliberate leaving Mick out, because emotion doesn't mean unhinged. I guess my frustration lay in the fact he wasn't particularly enlightening. I don't think he's often complete or methodical, I think he just throws out rubbish, or excuses. And I find he's begun doing similar on 360. I suppose on some way I relate emotion to hearing the truth, and that's all I want. But then I understand why - re my second paragraph.
-
We have the second worse percentage because we've played Sydney, Fremantle and hawthorn. Has any other team done that? We can't run and can't defend AGAINST THEM! And when it comes to skills, they break down because of their pressure. Gee whiz, a bit of perspective wouldn't go astray. We don't have the talent compare to the best. Simple explanation.
-
Have to say I've been increasingly frustrated at Roos' press conferences, I want to see more emotion from him. Like a Scotty, or Dimma. But after thinking about it I realise theres no point in going out there and saying, "Looking we have a crap list, as soon as one of our best is out we're forced to play people who just aren't up to it." At the end of the day those players are going to have to play for him next week, and he knows it.
-
No were not, we've been beaten by easily the best 3 teams in the competition. If we're dusted by the Bulldogs by 50 next week, then tee off.We simply don't have the talent. And by talent I mean athletic talent as well. You can't outrun your opposition if youre not as fast or as naturally aerobic. You can't outmuscle if you're not as naturally strong. The effort was there, the ability wasn't. Is Roos responsible for bringing in the talent? Nup. My oh my do we need Viney, Jetta, Kent, Salem... They go, we go. We have no depth. Edit: And of course Hogan. So we lost our best forward, our best inside mid (on this years form), our best small defender, our best forward pressure, and our best user out of the back half. Who do we have to replace them with?

READY FOR THE KILL - THE HAWTHORN GAME
watchtheeyes replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
My gf is an unabashed watts fan and I just sent her your post, her response was pretty fair I thought: "Re Demonland.. Yeah what he said!!! People are being big fat jerks! They say they bleed red and blue yet they continually slag off the player who needs their support more than anyone! How can Jack play well if everyone is telling him how sh*t he is all the time!"- 322 replies

READY FOR THE KILL - THE HAWTHORN GAME
watchtheeyes replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
We're struggling with both. JKH, Newton and Pedersen didn't really have much of it last week, and when they did, they didn't really do very good things with it. So, we might as well bring these boys in because at least they'll work to get in to space. Bail will tackle. Michie will get inside and find the ball. I'll still watch, if anything it creates more interest. Someone said it earlier, but I agree that it would be great to see Salem in the middle a bit more.- 322 replies

We got outmuscled and outrun last week. We have no way of competing in muscle, so we try to bring in run. Jones and Bail will be compliant as well. I can see what they're thinking, but it is very back to future.. and that makes me nervous.- 322 replies

Well, it was a a padded helmet, didn't have a hard shell or anything. It wouldn't be much different to what he'd be expected to wear I wouldn't think, it he does wear one. -

I wore a helmet playing Rugby for my entire life and I can tell you that they do absolutely zilch for concussions. Stopped the cuts, but I was still groggy as a drunken sailor on many occasions. -
We all knew this was going to be a process. Before Roos came along we were getting beaten by 100s, he needed to teach us accountability and defense. He's got one more year and Goodwin takes over, so that perfect meshing of styles will happen by design. When roos came in he would've set out a timeline, I don't reckon we'd be too far from that right now.
-
...? Really?

Actually thought watts offered a bit when he came on. Looking forward to Jetta and viney coming back. Wondering what we do with Howe now.
