PODCAST: Rd 5 v Bombers

Featured Replies

G'day loyal Demonland Podcast listeners. As you know Andy is away and will miss three games in total - last week and the bombers and lions games.

The process for recording the show, which normally goes out live, is a bit complex and above George and my pay grade - Andy records and mixes the show with a combo of recording software and analog mixing desk, with George and i joining via video link.

The plan was for me to do the Suns (tick), Bombers and Lions games solo whilst Andy is away, with me recording a basic sound file, which i send to Andy who adds the intro and outro and then uploads to the various platforms (which by the by @Demonland is above and beyond given you are on holidays - much respect).

However @george_on_the_outer and have decided to harden up and find a way to record the next two Demonland pods together. I mean how hard can it be?

Why am i telling you this?

Because George and i are going to record the show Sunday morning, which means there'll be bugger all time post game to put questions in this thread, so we thought we'd open it up now for anyone who wants to ask a question for the dees v bombers pod ahead of the game (about the game or more general).

We have some questions already that were posted after i recorded last weeks show, which are relevant for this game too, so i'll kick off this thread with those questions:

@GS_1905 asks:

Haven't jumped into the podcast thread for a while so apologies if this has been asked already but im just a little worried about the development of our young brigade: Windsor, XL, Langford and Tholstrup in particular. Now i know these kids are 2/3 year players and we must temper expectations. But aside from becoming (obviously) solid footballers, are any of these kids likely to be future stars of the comp? If so, who is most likely to break into the top 20 afl players in the future?

@buck_nekkid asks:

What does our best forward line look like? Based on facts? Based on best guess? By the end of the year?

Smaller group used in the centre bounce setup - are we getting to our โ€˜pure midsโ€™, and the choice who went through was specific (tactical?) to GCS. For example Kolt had zero attendances - so no tags this week.

@Bowserpower asks:

What are the main differences with our forward line this year?

@binman asks:

George have you adjusted your thinking/expectations post our magnificent wins against a benchmark team in the Suns, and starting the season 3-1?

George, speaking of our magnificent wins against the Suns, how pumped were you? Highlights from that game ?

Thanks for the effort guys. I know the show will be great, and look forward to it, as always!

just remember to hit the 'record' button!

here's some generic q's for you to consider...

generally speaking, the perception is that young team's get 'tired' as the season goes on and often drop off - the medja narrative appears to have that as the story for us in 2026, but we're not actually 'young' with a fair whack of experience at the top end and not much in the mid-range of 25-30

so... do you expect us to 'drop off' in 2026?

do you think we should 'prioritise' youth and getting games into the likes of jefferson or kentfield instead of focusing on building team cohesion with the side that we've had for the majority of 2026 which is winning games and playing exciting, attacking footy?

of our senior cohort who are out of contract at the end of this - melksham, plugger mac - do you think they will play on in 2027? (and thus stop milkshake's kids from crying)

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

    Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFLโ€™s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

    Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.ย

    Iโ€™ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we wonโ€™t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything youโ€™d like to ask or say below and weโ€™ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics youโ€™d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.
