Jim's team, too, BDA. Can you tell us more? A bit of the 'Collingwoods' or 'Geelongs' for you, perhaps?

Not exactly equivalent but Collingwood is probably best comparison

The dubs are the big city team with all the advantages that confers. Nobody outside of Dublin likes to see them win.

Amusingly after missing much of the praccy match, I found myself awake in the early hours and managed to watch quite a bit of Dublin's victory!

Like so many others, Goldrick is one of my favourites just for the pure attack she has on the game, and it will surprise no one that this was on show in this game. She plays a very similar role as we see in AFLW, hustling and scrapping then providing lots of bounce off the defensive area. It was apparent why every time she gets the ball in Aussie Rules, the instinct to play on is so, so, ingrained.

Weird thought I had while watching, I wonder how many people warned her about the Jimmy running over the mark incident when she first came to Australia? Or maybe it was a "let's not speak about it" situation...

Anyway, I must admit as the minutes ticked away, and with Dublin well in front, I was keen for Sinead to maybe just take it easy. Of course, that was never going to happen. You can imagine my consternation when she went down with a leg issue late in the game. Seemed ok though and played out the final minutes despite several other substitutions being made, so nothing to be concerned about.

So that's 4 All-Ireland championships for Goldie, to go along with her AFLW premiership. Super effort. Hope the winning feeling continues in Australia.

Sadly the Women's team can forget about getting a lot of coverage with the men's team ending in 3 weeks time.

They will be drowned out!

The seasons have overlapped since 2022, so it'll be the same as it's been for a while now. And really, when the men are not competing during September, there's less overlap.

Apologies, think I misread what you meant here - yes, the coaching situation on the men's side will probably do a lot of drowning out!

Even Kate Hore was asked for comment at the AFLW captains day today, to which she played a straight bat.

Kate also gave some promising comments regarding Tayla Harris's injury and Round 1:

"A little ankle sprain. I don't think it's anything too major so she should be fine to go for round one. A little bit of a bump in the road but no doubt she's fine."

Thanks DIO, that is quite a list. Shades of last year unfortunately. Hopefully we can jag a couple of early season wins and get some troops back along the way.

I am really looking forward to Saturday

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

Melbourne’s slow starts have been a troubling theme for a while. Against the Suns, they started slowly in both of their games, they trailed by 5.7.37 to 0.1.1 at quarter time at Peoples First Stadium in Round 16. This season, the story has remained the same and if the Demons fail to shake off this issue against the unbeaten Gold Coast Suns, they will be in serious danger of capitulating once again in their Easter Sunday showdown.

The Demons are back at the MCG for the second week in a row. They face the Suns off a 15 day break without their prized recruit and former Demon champion Christian Petracca. This will be a massive test for the Demons who will be facing a genuine Premiership contender. Who comes in and who goes out?

  • REPORT: Carlton

The text messages started flooding in shortly after quarter time. One read: “Is Melbourne even at the ground?” Moments later, as Carlton’s Elijah Hollands kicked the first goal of the second term, the Blues held a commanding 43-point lead. By then, the Demons’ only score was a behind kicked by Brody Mihocek nearly five minutes into the game. Ironically, Mihocek would also register the last minor score of the day after the game took a dramatic turnaround.
