I admired what Clayton achieved in 2024. He managed to be one of our best contributors in an ordinary season. The perceptive and sensible supporter recognizes how that was a gutsy achievement given the hurdles! The rest can talk to the butt!

What a ridiculous post.

Clarry had a woeful 2024 by HIS standards (not anyone else’s), but the guys’s a freak to get 35 touches and 3 Brownlow votes in round 1 off the back of a 10% pre season. That performance (and some of the club’s early season wins) sort of slipped through the cracks when assessing 2024.

Only one player on our list averaged higher disposals than Clayton last year! That was Petracca, who beat him by .19%... Bring-Back-Powell put it succinctly, above.

I luv Clarry, but he had a shocking year last year by his standards, there can be no denying that. With his hand injury and his lack of pre-season, he was often a liability, rather than what we are all used to. So much so, that I couldn't understand why he wasn't rested to heal his hand. Long bow, but maybe if we had rested him, he may not have suffered the knee issue or the broken ribs and therefore been able to come back once the hand was right and see out the season playing more to his usual standard. Who knows, with Clarry firing again, we have even made the finals.

Some have said that we didn't rest him because we didn't have a suitable replacement (as if anyone could adequately replace Clarry!). However, players like Laurie would have welcomed the chance to prove himself by playing a string of games in his absence. The only other reason i can imagine for not resting him was that management were perhaps concerned Clarry might lapse back into bad habits if not fully involved in the team.

We may never know, but so glad he appears to be fit and firing this pre-season.

Thanks!

Well you’re blowing smoke up a guys [censored] who literally blew up his own preseason and effectively ruined his own year. I mean your posts are generally happy clappy but that’s ridiculous.

Take a deep breath, then re-read that post of mine that you take umbrage to. I challenge you to highlight the part that you think is worthy of your subsequent outrage!

The bit about talking to the butt because not all agree that not applying oneself to preseason is ok for a guy getting paid as much as he is.

Quite clearly, I was talking about 'in-season' achievement in spite of the hurdles he faced. Some of those hurdles were his own doing, no doubt! You seem determined to drag your own bugbears about player payments, application etc and insert them alongside my personal admiration for his ability to push on and still be a significant contributor overall.

Well clearly not according to the coaches.

Didn't even finish top 10 in the best and fairest.

Don’t you hate it when facts blow up your argument. I mean Trump, his billionaires and the MAGA crew don’t care when this happens but we on DL are held to a far higher standard. On the plus side your training reports are much appreciated.

Thank you for being a patron. I see you have also fine tuned your ability to patronize!

Something I realised - Clarrie doesn't have his shoulder strapped any more.  How long was it strapped for? When did the strapping disappear?  Also, in the runs back and forth at the end of training, he was not the fastest in the first two or three but by the last one (after a bunch had dropped out), he led the pack.

Also I sorta wonder that if some of the guys were pretty knocked around by the heat on Monday - it was freaking hot.  I see Tmac was back in full training on Friday.

Persist with this kid. Definitely something there I reckon.

Should play him as a forward

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
