Financial Review: Melbourne Demons the 6th most valuable brand in the AFL

Featured Replies

There methodology seems a bit sus with you have west coast ranked below us a team that sells out every game even when winning the wooden spoon, makes more money than god and have a wait list on memberships, and probably makes multiples on sponsorships than we do

I have no knowledge of brand valuations and their methodology but here is a link if anyone is interested:

I would say that MFC does certainly have some additional value as a brand as it has the name 'Melbourne' and also has the history of being the original foundation football club for the code itself.

Who takes responsibility for this?

Gee, it wouldn't be the president that was turfed out or the CEO that everyone's beying for the blood of, would it?

And after ranking 10/18, the next story will be that old chestnut about how Sydney has the most fans of any team in Australia.

I find that so laughable.  Sydney base that on a Morgan Gallup poll.  I mean, if random people were phoned and asked "what AFL team do you support?", of course 99% of Sydneysiders are going to say Sydney, same as 99% of Melburnians would say Storm if they were asked about NRL.  Does it mean they actively barrack for them?  Clearly no.  They would only have said that because it was the only AFL team they heard of.

How exactly were these results calculated? I find it crazy that we are above West Coast who I would expect to be in the top 4 at least. Is it just our recent success that has seen us jump so high?

Dubious methodology. I hate them both but no way we are more valuable than the Eagles or the Hawks.

Ranking surprised me. I would have thought Adelaide is up there and to rank Eagles and Dockers effectively even is amazing. Eagles are a real power brand held back only by onfield performance

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
