Thanks for this, IHW. Rod was a legend and immensely popular with Dees' fans. Tremendous user of the ball, foot passer and no-nonsense approach to opposition players. Absolute delight to watch his efforts.

No worries D56. You always knew what you were going to get from balls.

You going tonight?

Always loved Balls. Many of our players walked taller when he was in the side.

Does a great job with the ex players group, you need people like that.

Cannot, and it is only a little freeway trip for me from Seaford, but I cannot attend this game. If you are going, do have fun watching Crows' noses bleed whilst faces in general are rubbed deeply into the mud.

Opposition fan's probably never saw him as the thug, but any true MFC supporter saw the skills and talented footballer in Rodney.

...and in an era where thuggery was tolerated and perhaps even celebrated, along with a few others like Danny Huges, he was OUR enforcer laying down the law.

It's a different game now, but I do see guys in our team like May & Viney (& previously Hibbo) having a similar presence for us on the feild.

Doesn't get measured in any stat, but has a tangible effect on team performance IMHO.

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFL’s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.
