In fairness the average fan wouldn't even know the VFL practice game is on.... Dland fans are a bit different of course

The VFL comp is taken for granted so it's lucky that a pre season hit out gets any coverage.

4-5 weeks until the next match for most of these guys

I'm guessing he will play 2-3 quarters and then will have a quarter in the seniors maybe?

Tholstrup, Jefferson, McDonald weren’t part of the main group of the captains run so clearly the emergencies for tonight, they might pull them out early to cover.

It is. I would imagine that any players named on the extended bench that weren't in the 23 I listed as training with the main group in the Captain's Run like Kolt, TMac and Jefferson will probably play a half or 3/4 in the 2s and then play a 1/2 or 1 quarter in the 1s.

Funny, potential old man eyes at play and point granted, but that's not how i read team selection.

70k members is a fair audience

Errol Flynn, Tyrone Power and Roan Steele all ‘early’ matinee idols.  RS continues his fine run of ‘classic goals’ should have the turnstiles clicking over. Get him in mid-season draft!

Our club mentioned that we could follow the game via there site. Cannot find anything there.

Open the gates next time for the few who are interested!

Teams in the Practice Match can name and play an extended Bench. We named 3 players (Kolt, TMac & Jefferson) that didn't train with the main group of 23 yesterday. The photo I posted above from Carlton Reserves Twitter shows TMac and the Dees photo from Twitter showed Colt. An educated guess is that these 3 who were named on the extended bench for the Dees will play 1/2 or 3/4 with Casey and then 1/2 or 1/4 with the Dees.

I am really confused: the photo of the 'huddle' shows McDonald who, I thought, was named for tonight. I am also confused that there are 2 games this evening and on a hot day like today, how can players be expected to show up for 2 games? It's kind of surreal...

See my posts above. They will either not play at all for the 1s or play 1/2 and 1/2 or 3/4 and 1/4.

Have you raised concerns with the club re our social media Andy?

I assume you would have some contacts there that would pass on supporter feedback.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
