Salem’s Long Journey Back

Yes, it would be great, without risking breaching copyright (ie don’t cut and paste) to get a brief précis on what in particular he needs to come back from.  NB knee, calf, thyroid, etc

He basically detailed how 2 knee surgeries detailed his season in 2022 & then in 2023 the thyroid condition which led to (he believes) his knee surgery (a bit of cartilage chipped off due to the knee being weakened from lying on the couch for a month). Never got back his fitness. The thyroid issue sounded awful. This season already did an intense training session overseas with a lot of different athletes etc and feels he has that “zip” back. The last time he felt like this was in 2021. He sounded extremely positive.

On the topic of peroxide, in 2022 I was uhm-ing and ah-ing over whether to dye my hair blonde.  Right before finals, Salo went back to blonde and that was the clincher for me!  Waiting for us to be in at least a semi-final to temporarily dye my blonde hair red and blue one of these days...

Salem has always been a player that has missed a few preseason and always reflects on his season

So 640, what did it say?

Basically what Deestar9  said couple of posts ago.

He lost his Zip from 2021.

2022 ruined cos of the 2 knee operations   then in the pre season 2023 got the Thyroid again after six years.

lost weight and no Zip.

Heart rate of 125 walking to the table.

Resting to recover lost all fitness from the pre season work   then hurt his knee again. The year was done really.

Seems confident a good pre season  will give him Zip again

Spoke about Oliver and the club all getting united and attacking the problem head on.

Not a bad few words really especially when it was in the HScum.

I thought he had it sewn up in the first quarter.
And yes, Johannasen won one which surprised many.

And I reckon first Tiger flag, Houli was the one keeping them in it when Adelaide were on.
Naturally  media favourite Dusty got it.

It seems to me that Salem has appeared in the media more in the last 3-4 weeks than throughout the whole of the rest of his career combined. If that's correct, I wonder why? Has the club asked him, as a senior player, to do more? Does he want to do more as he considers his post-playing future?

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFL’s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.

  • PODCAST: Gold Coast

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.
