The veteran defender eked out every ounce of energy in his aging football body and despite injuries that limited the number of his senior appearances, he was still a valuable member of the team right up to the end when he announced his retirement

He's a specialist and a keeper if we can.

The thought of he and Melk together in a combined flag winning coaching success, makes me lick my palate in unmitigated ironic glee...

Hibbo has always been an honest, ‘heart and soul’, true (red & blue) contributor to our Great Club, ever since he first joined our ranks!  He has always given his all, even through the hardest of personal times, and is a Premiership player to boot!  All the very best Hibbo, for whatever lies ahead!

Hibberd has been a wonderful servant of the club since crossing prior to the 2017 season - can't ask much more than a premiership and an All Australian from him.

I don't blame him for playing on after 2021 given the late start to his career, but his body has increasingly let him down and the club probably should have given a nudge at the end of 2022.

Good luck to Hibbo for the next stage of his life.

Had a great career at the MFC, particularly his first season of 2017 when he made the AA team. One of our better trades in recent years.

Was a victim of Goody's roulette selection wheel in the 2023 finals series as he was dropped for the Blues final.

Michael Hibberd was a family favourite from day 1, his is a great footy story from late starter at Frankston VFL to becoming an All Austrians and Premiership player at the mighty Dees. A real character who suffered a number of challenges in his life (EFC) and the loss of his much loved brother in a boating accident. We loved his determination and never be beaten spirit, hard tough uncompromising footballer. Trust comes to mind with Hibbo, will be hard to replace.!

Melbourne have held talks with Clayton Oliver and they’ve laid out where he fits in under Steve King’s vision and been frank about expectations. Oliver is still under contract for five years, but the door is open if he wants to explore his options elsewhere.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Essendon

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 2 Jacob van Rooyen

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
