2 years in a row the aflw granny has sold out in a snap.

Why isn't the game moved to a bigger venue?

oh that's easy .... $s.

The AFL floats on booze and gambling $s and every other revenue stream it can find.

So the opportunity cost to rent out its Docklands Stadium, built with the support of government so as to create another mecca for footy, to a non-footy venture makes more money than $20 ticket to the AFLW GF.

Numbers not published but one can expect that 8k tickets are pre-allocated if not 2k more.

None left

My guess is a crowd of 75% but of course all tickets are sold

That’s a huge allocation for a ground that holds maximum 12,000. I’ll spew if they only get 75% of capacity because so many people missed out, as did a bunch of us who were planning on attending it to support North’s cheer squad. And because Amy Smith (daughter of Shaun, sister of Joel) is a Kanga. Who knew it’d sell out so quickly?

The game should be at Marvel where they could get 30K and everyone can get a ticket and sit comfortably with a spare seat or two between groups of people.

Instead people are going to get stuck in like sardines in the crappy legends stand with thousands of people missing out on tickets.

The AFL's decision making makes my head hurt at times.

Don’t disagree with you. Not sure what the answer is when you are competing with cricket season or the lead in to. Our bigger stadiums have cricket pitches and what curator is going to allow a game of football on it while they are trying to prepare pitches. Plus there is a safety issue for the players as well as those pitches are rock hard.

The football season is well and truly over so cricket is now the priority.

Im assuming Marvel is used for  those stupid T20 games or even state onedayers.

Its also used for music gigs isnt it?.

If AFLW GF tickets are a measly  20 dollars its no wonder the AFL is reluctant to host the girls GF at a major (expensive) venue.

If fans paid 200 dollars then theyd be at Marvel this weekend. but it wouldnt be anywhere near a sellout. Catch 22.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Essendon

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
