Melbourne Free Agents & Out of Contract Players

Featured Replies

Jon Ralph has an article in the Herald Sun online entitled “Wreck it Ralph: Every free agent - where is your club placed with its players“. This is what he says about our free agents -

MELBOURNE

James Jordon is a free agent after being delisted and then relisted, and clubs including Essendon, Gold Coast and Sydney are interested.

The Demons want to re-sign him, but he would get a long-term deal and a more prominent role elsewhere.

Jake Melksham had 15 goals in nine games before a goalless past two games, then bounced back with 3.4 against Hawthorn.

He turns 33 in the next fortnight and would believe he can secure a one-year deal.

Michael Hibberd turns 34 in January, so his age is against him, but in 11 games he is shown he is still a tight-checking defender in an excellent backline, so he's a chance to play on.

1. Let JJ go, unless he is prepared to take unders and expect to be depth only

2. Give Melksham and Hibbo 1 year extensions if they come asking. Hibbo probably retires in all honesty as his body is deteriorating.

Hibbo needs to retire after winning one more flag, Melk looks like he could go for 2 more

Melk is hardly more unreliable than most of the 22 and remains one player who understands  that kicks can go high to a pack or low and penetrating towards a target which is a good plan if you are passing it through contested space.

I'm surprised few others seem to have noticed

  • Whispering_Jack changed the title to Melbourne Free Agents & Out of Contract Players

Seven MFC players are currently off contract ~

Luke Dunstan, Michael Hibberd, James Jordon, Jake Melksham, Andy Moniz-Wakefield, Deakyn Smith and Kye Turner.

Unfortunately, Dunstan and Melksham are set to be out for all of 2024 with injuries and, in that case, are unlikely to be contracted. Hibbo has retired and Jordon may choose to go elsewhere for more opportunities. AMW might well be the only one on this list to continue into next year.

Melksham just turned 32 not 33.
