The lionhearted 2021 premiership skipper and six time All-Australian valiantly battled injury in an unsuccessful attempt to win a repeat flag and still lays claim to being the competition’s best ruckman.

"The Melbourne skipper won All-Australian selection for the sixth time this year after a season when he averaged 19 disposals, 27 hitouts and nine hitouts to advantage. Spent more time closer to goal this season and is likely to do more of the same next year with the arrival of Brodie Grundy." - Herald Sun

Heard he played with a broken toe in our finals campaign. Seems we had more than a few banged up bodies.

We do our most important player absolutely no favours by (a) playing him in meaningless mid season games when he is clearly injured and (b) kicking the ball on his head and letting him be smashed by ten blokes all day long.

Max is clearly the best ruckman in the competition but we need him to be at his best in September, not May.  If that means he plays 18 games next year and rests for four, so be it.

PS. He is not a forward and probably never will be.

100% agree with that last sentence. In fact, I agree with the whole post.

Big Max our mighty champion succumbed to injury and foul play through the second half of the year, I felt very sorry for him over the final 5-6 games. So happy that Brodie has come on board to provide that mature AA support for Max. Still need an extra big forward/ruck to provide depth for our two AA’s though. Can’t wait to see how these two work out for us.!!

Yep, I have a man crush on Maxy. Along with many other men Champion bloke, captain, player and all round nice guy 😍
