Did Richmond have this challenge?

Sometimes the recent past is worth reviewing to take note of any lessons. Just wondering if Richmond struggled in their back to back year, were they ‘hunted’ like we are currently and if so, any ideas how they overcome it?

Are there any other parallels that we can draw from?

No.

In each premiership year, their back half of the going into finals was incredibly strong going into each finals series.

There is no parallels to draw off.

The only parallel I think you can draw is how the forward line set up of 1 tall in Riewoldt and a 4-5 mosquito fleet of smalls w/ a mid-sized forward in Josh Caddy ended up failing to be enough to mount any kind of efficient come-back against the Pies in a prelim, who rattled them early with fast football that caught their defenders in 1 on 1's, The initial surge of 5-7 goals was enough to keep the Tigers at bay as the Collingwood defenders swamped Riewoldt in 3 on 1's all game.

They went and recruited Tom Lynch in the off-season and the rest is history. 

Whatever happens this year, we will still need to go and recruit a key position forward or at worst a stop-gap kpf to replace Mitch Brown and be depth for a hopefully injury free TMAC and JVR as he develops.

It's actually the opposite to 2018 for Richmond, they had a very soft run into the finals and it did not help them, it hindered them. If you can recall that Hawthorn supplanted us in the top 4 and Richmond took care of them pretty comfortably before getting the week off.

Hoping this tough month right now could do the opposite for us in prepping us for the finals

Their 2017 year was nowhere near as good as our 2021, so our base was higher. And their second year they failed to make the GF. Let's see...

That wasn't really the question. 

He's talking about the form this time of the year similarly to Richmond’s in each of their premiership year. Richmond's form in each premiership year and even 2018 far outweighs ours this year alone.

Their 2018 is already far better then what we've dished up this year. Their home and away season they only lost 4 games before getting shell shocked in the preliminary final. 

In 2018 they also had top 4 locked in from about round 12 onwards.

As it stands, we're no where near a lock for even top 4 this year. Lets get that sewn up first before we even start talking flags this year.

When comparing to Richmond our form line is crap, but our draw is probably one of the hardest in recent history, so it’s kind of uncharted territory.

We lost to the Dogs by 10 and Pies by 7. It quite easy could have been a different story on any other day and we’d be loaded with confidence and be premiership favourites ahead of Geelong. 

Funny game , 3 goals is all we needed.

I think we forget just how hard our draw has been this year. First Crack did a segment on Sunday where they analysed quarters won against top eight sides across the season. We ranked somewhere in the top four alongside Geelong, Collingwood and Sydney. But the difference was that we had played significantly more games against the top eight than any of these other sides. I cannot remember the exact number but I remember being shocked at just how many more quarters they said we had played. As much as I can’t stand him, David King actually used this as evidence as to why he believed we were still a contender. Anyway, that isn’t an excuse for our losses - there are plenty of other reasons for them - but still, it does offer some perspective.

I expect us to beat Carlton and Brisbane without hesitation. It doesn’t have to be a thumping or anything special, just get the win.

Carlton are checked out and Brisbane I just simply don't rate at all.
