Cam Zuhaar

Recommended Posts

We have a very Vanilla forwardline and it's obvious that the more attribute diversity you have across players in lines of the ground, the more trouble opposition have matching those players up.

Zurhaar has immense potential and has clearly been stifled by playing in a bottom side who struggle to kick a score every week and would just about be bottom of the table for inside 50 average. (If not bottom three).

Assessing his numbers is silly because of the above reason. Clearly he'd have more impact in a forwardline that sees more ball.

The question is where would he fit in.

He's a medium tall with freakish talent and goal sense. Not dissimilar to Fritsch in that sense except their competitiveness and intensity around the ball is completely different. Zurhaar suits our competitive and combative style more and I could see us getting the best out of him. He's intimidating. Frankly I'd have Zurhaar over Fritsch although I doubt the the FD would look at that.

They're both aerial threats but Fritsch applies almost zero pressure when the ball is on the ground whereas Zurhaar at least chases and has a desire to hurt. Can you play both of them on a forwardline with one key tall though?

That's the conundrum.

I'd almost consider it given we'll see Gawn resting more often over the next few years.

One thing for certain is the need to consistently update our game and list.

I'd have a crack at him.

Is he so different to what JVR could be for us? Reckon we might just go with what we already have here.

JVR is more like Larkey. Zurhaar is more like Fritsch.

Last week we had a forward line that consisted of Spargo, ANB, Melksham and Bedford. T Mac was the only forward missing. This year Zurhaar will kick more than those 4 combined.

I appreciate the roles that ANB and Spargo play, but you have to weigh it up against scoreboard pressure, which they don't apply. Everyone tags Melksham as a defensive liability, but even he stood up last week. It wouldn't be difficult to get Zurhaar to buy into the importance of defensive effort.

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the
