If he has a solid support network around him and gets wise advice heโ€™ll be ok

My advice. Focus on footy and ignore social media. Never heard anyone ever say social media helped with their mental health and wellbeing

Who is Billie Eilish?

Ask the grandkids, Bingers! ๐Ÿ˜

The pressure on this kid from day 1 was immense.

I have it on good authority that his social media feed was constantly full of girls throwing themselves at him (in the most graphic of ways), blokes doing the same, girls turning up at his house, unbelievable amounts of vitriol thrown at him etc. The lot.

I don't know whether this caused an issue or whether it exacerbated a pre-existing issue but the pressure on young men generally at age 16-20 that are trying to pursue their dream of an AFL career is something that very few of us would comprehend.

Clubs try to guide them but with the intense demands and regimen of AFL they are cut off from their former lives in so many ways that its such a critical medium for young people to connect. Easy to say "just turn it off" but its way harder than that.

They can't go for a beer or a walk without some kind of attention. And the attention today is relentless.

I wish him well

I heard his mum has been pretty crook, which would explain the "family matters" reason. If that is indeed the reason then I hope he takes all the time he needs. As we saw with Jesse Hogan losing a parent can have a big effect on a young man, even more so when you're already grappling with mental issues. Wish him and his family all the best.

All in good time. โค๏ธ
Meanwhile, Iโ€™m sure one of your three beautiful daughters will know who Billie Eilish is.ย
Then again, itโ€™s not worth losing sleep over. Iโ€™m sure youโ€™ll continue to lead a full and happy life despite not knowing who she is. ๐Ÿ˜

I think social media played a massive part in peoples lives during the lockdowns, just need to be on there for the right reasons.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven Mayย

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
