It's that time of the year again when there is not much happening football wise.  The Grand Final has been played (spoiler:  we won!), the Draft has taken place (spoiler:  we nailed it!) and the first cricket Test starts next week.

Time for a little distraction, then.  As the thread title suggests, this is the last of the footy related brainteasers in my arsenal (triumphant cries resound around Demonland) although I do have a cricket cryptic up my sleeve that I'll probably unleash in January.

Today's team consists of some champions past and present, some good ordinary players and, frankly, a couple of plodders.

Your task, as always, is to deduce what factor they have in common.

You know the drill.  All answers to be sent to me in a PM and incorrect suggestions will be posted to thin the field of possibilities.

The prizes for this one are unique, but I can't tell you what they are just yet as that would give the answer away.

B:  Laurie Fowler   Darcy Moore   Dean Solomon

H/B:  Ken Hunter   Drew Petrie   John Barker

C:  Cameron Bruce   Dane Swan   Josh Kennedy

H/F:  Steve McPherson   Lance Franklin   Jordan Dawson

F:  Liam Ryan   Peter Wright   Russell Robertson

R:  John Nicholls   Tim Watson   Sam Mitchell

I/C:  Geoff Cunningham   Dennis Banks   Sam Reid   Jarryd Blair

COACH:  Checker Hughes

Which Josh Kennedy - or doesn’t that matter?

I had Josh Kennedy from Sydney Swans in mind, but it makes no difference.

This is a fairly substantial clue.

Our first incorrect answer is in, and I can confirm that they are not all the surnames of models (!).

A couple more incorrect replies have been received.

These players don't share a surname with musicians, nor are they varieties of animal (after all, that would be an all-Collingwood team).  :D

Great thread title, DS. Love the alliteration. However, there’s an “F” word which you haven’t included, but one which would be very fitting. 😠

I can also confirm that they are not names of politicians.

Pfft. What id*iot suggested that?!

Give us a clue?

Please.

Well, seeing as you said "please" ...

People by now seem to have realised that the link pertains to the players' surnames.

Further, the answer is not football related in any way.

I'll be away from the computer until about 9.30pm and, if the teaser is still unsolved at that stage, another clue (this time in pictorial form) shall be forthcoming.

Crikey!  I go away for an hour and the correct answers have flooded in.

The common factor with these players is that their surnames are also the names of Federal Electorates.  (Sorry, WCW, you were in the right area but I didn't want to give the game away by revealing that!).

First across the line was Tim, who is hereby appointed Prime Minister.  Congratulations, sir.

A short half-head behind in second spot was Satan, who has earned the title of State Premier.  Kudos.

In third place was mo64 who has been elected Mayor of his Municipality.  Well done.

Honourable mentions also to Councillors La Dee-vina Comedia and #11-TonyAnderson.

You can now see why I couldn't reveal the prizes.

And, in case what you were wondering what the cryptic pictorial clue was going to be, here it is anyway (a reference to Morrison).  I did consider boy band Hanson and Robert Palmer as well, which I am sure would have misled people into believing that the answer was music related.  :D

Thanks to all who played or gave up in frustration.  I hope you all had some fun.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.
