The back up forward featured only once at AFL level when he kicked two goals against the Hawks and has played only six senior games in his two seasons since arriving from Essendon. The club does have faith in his ability to carry out that forward role when called upon to do so and extended his contract at the end of the season.     Depth is essential in maintaining success, both by providing back up in case of injury but also in putting pressure on the establishment to continue to strive. 
    Mitch Brown is a solid example of this role  - great to see him stay around.

    Yes, I agree. Mitch is a very capable back up player. Plays with great passion too. (When he gets a chance!) Hope the VFL functions normally next season and he can show he is no plodder.

      One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.
