Didn't disgrace himself by any means but I'm still not a fan. We don't need looseness or unpredictability in our back half but that's what he brings. I felt he was caught out of position too much. Lever and Petty played well and helped cover some of the gaps but IMO today showed two things: Smith is more than adequate depth, but he remains depth.

Yep, he adds chaos to our back half. We can have a bit of that in our forward half, but the rest of our game has to be rock solid.

Was just warming up the seat for May. Hopefully that's the last we see of him this year. A fill in player when needed.

Actually didn't do too bad today. But he did not have a disposal in the last 2 quarters just a FYI.

For someone who has played so little football in the last 2 years, I thought Joel did a pretty good job. Whether, with more game time, he can step up and become one of our key 7 selected defenders, only time will tell. But on yesterdays performance, I'd have him in the team next week in front of Hibbert, who has lost his mojo, and yesterday allowed his direct opponent 29 disposals, and 8 score assists. Whatever happens, I'm glad he has received another contract, and hope its an injury free year for him, and that he is able to reach his full potential.

(And FYI, Ben Brown didn't have a disposal in the last 2 quarters either, and Melksham also had 2 quarters of zero disposals - just saying).

I'm not referring to clangers, I'm referring to positioning. Watch the replay. He's all over the shop.

I had low expectations but i was pleasantly surprised. He's good defensive depth for us. Happy with the extra year after todays performance

He is valuable depth as a backman. He is far more than depth when playing forward - and a run in the fwd line for a few weeks is no longer opportune with the finals bearing down on us. Another example of the expense and nil returns from playing Weed for so long, so unnecessarily. I am sure that had Smith been given a recent, past month in the team, for example, he would have somewhere between 10 and 20 goals in his account by now. As a forward, he runs, finds space, leads to those spaces - and we have all seen how apt he is with marking - and he kicks straight, well.
