Saints vs Lions

I'm watching the game and it's the Dees game all over again, but in reverse. Whatever we had last week, obviously it was contagious.

- Saints can't take a trick out of the middle and are being smashed in the clearances.

- Any time they try to run it out of defence, they hit a wall thanks to Brisbane's pressure

The only difference is that where we had Robbo and Neitz managing goals despite utterly pathetic supply, Gehrig and co can't get near it. Just goes to show how fickle form is in AFL footy.

i was thinking the EXACT same thing.

Hudgton is injured, meaning they have a short bench. They are making huge errors and plyaing poor footy.

The lions cant do a thing wrong.

Couldnt agree more with you!

Another contrast to last week was the free kick count. At one stage it was 12-5 in Brisbane's favour.

It's the Old Doppelganger Game Plan Trick. Seems to be quite virulent. We'll need to watch how it effects the Lions next week.

While the Saints only had the one injured player the Runner did strain a calf and could play no further part in proceedings.

No such thing as an expert in footy.

The game last night was the first bit of footy I've watched since last Friday's disgrace.

It was great to see the Saints lose, but god it makes you wonder why Brisbane can get it right, and we can't.

Btw, Brisbane's kids are looking great. They won't be on the bottom again for a while.

maybe....

Would Mathews put up with the waxxing and waning of certain Dee's game ?

Would Mathews allow a personal journey to a record, despite any real week in week out display of obvious talent ?

and the best til last..

would Mathews persist in a game with a tactic that was so obviously crucifying his team??

Matthews is a very intelligent coach. He manages to not only extract the best from what he has, but does enough homework on the other team. He's frustrate two teams in a row & prevented them from playing their game style. To a point where they lose confidence & begin to turnover the ball big time.

The experts are saying that the Hawks & Saints didnt go out there to play crap, they were forced to by the lions choking game style.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Essendon

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #3 Christian Salem

Salem proved to be a valuable contributor as a reliable and solid one-on-one medium-sized defender in what was undoubtedly his most impressive season since the premiership year. He remains a highly capable rebounding option for the Demons as he approaches his 200th game at the club.
