I know there's still a lot of season left however I've just read the latest 'Inside Trading' article on the AFL website. It mentions that Quinton Narkle will wait until the end of the year before opening contract talks. Should we give his manager a call?

Not unless he's also Josh Kelly's manager

Narkle's is Ralph Carr and Josh Kelly's is Paul Connors but i'd love Kelly! I think Narkle could play wing and a small forward role, could be a good depth option.

I rate him and would gladly have him. When fit, he’s shown he can be damaging and is quite versatile. He’s played his best footy on ball and is more inside and contested than people think. He’s shown he can hit the scoreboard and break lines too. That said he’s not an answer for a permanent wing position IMO.

@Lord Travis do you think he's a Tom Sparrow or James Jordon sort of contested player? He could be handy to have for depth. I know he's had a few injuries, but if Burgess is still at the club next year he might be able to get him right.

He’s not that similar to our boys. Sparrow is a Viney clone, he’s all about intensity at the ball and man. Jordon isn’t a big clearance winner, more defensive around stoppages but has good kicking skills when he gets it. Narkle is more about burst of pace from congestion, sort of like Shuey if I had to give a comparison. If Narkle can stay fit, he’s got potential to be a decent long term player. Could play midfield, half forward or half back comfortably IMO.

Midfielder has break out game when allowed to play in the midfield isn't a huge shock, but also highlights to me that Narkle isn't a wingman or a half forward. He has burst pace but not a lot of top end speed and does he best work around the contest.

He's on the smaller side, isn't a great pressure player and his skills are sharp but not amazing.

Would he dislodge Oliver, Petracca, Harmes, JJ or Viney? I don't think so. Would he be an upgrade on Sparrow or Bailey Laurie next year - maybe, but not enough to go chase him.

That's why a player like Narkle will probably struggle to generate a lot of interest and get teams chasing him. A lot of teams are in the same position we are where we'd love outside or mid/forward players with pressure and skills. If you are on baller who's outside a teams best 4 options you won't generate a lot of interest.

    HIGHLIGHTS/LOWLIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Melbourne traveled across the continent to take on the Fremantle Dockers in sweltering conditions at Mandurah south of Perth in a game that delivered the club both its highlight and its lowlight in the first minute.  But first, let’s start by doing away with the usual cliches used in connection with the game. It was just a practice match and the result didn’t matter. Bad kicking is bad football. The game was played in severe heat, the swirly breeze played havoc with both teams resulting in

A couple of Demonland Trackwatchers headed down to Gosch's Paddock to bring you their observations from today's training session before the Demons head off to Perth for their final Practice Match. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Beautiful morning, not much wind, more than a couple of dozen spectators.  The players were up and about, boisterous and having fun. One of their last drills were three teams competing in a hard at it, handball game in a small area. Goody

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
