I just read this article. It’s great!

❤️?

this "lever cost two first round draft picks" narrative that gets trotted out ignored WHERE those first round picks were and what else was bundled with them

pick 10 in 2017 and (what ended up being) pick 19 and pick 59 in 2018 for lever, pick 35 in 2017, and (what ended up being) pick 47

so it was jake lever, harrison petty (pick 35), and matthew parker (selected by the aints at pick 47) for lochie o'brien (pick 10), liam stocker (pick 19), brett bewley (pick 59)

i'd say we're 'winning' that trade by the length of the flemington straight

lochie not michael o'brien

We have a great recruiting team that has done a great job. It wont always go our way but we can have some confidence they know what they're doing.

They also seem good to deal with unlike other clubs like Essendon and freo suffer that from having inflated egos running their recruiting depts.

Knowing who you want to get and savvy trading to get them rather than following the media pack on who the'hottest' out of contract player is makes a big difference.

We targeted langdon 2 years out and he was never going anywhere else  for example.

Think of some of the busts that have occurred with Hannath, BHill, zac Williams, Saad, hogan, etc.

Well done dees.

Got more detail from this post then the age article

After years of botched list management and dead set busted [censored] recruiting, it’s nice to now have a team in charge that knows what they’re doing.
Will be interesting to see how much our trade period dynamic changes now without Josh Mahoney. He was always very good at getting stuff done.

Jason Taylor is superior, JM got alot of credit fot JT's work

JT finds the players. JM was the guy who actually did the negotiating and got the deals done.

How do you reckon we'd have gone with same recruitment team of JT and co if Dodoro was the front man instead of JM?

It'll be interesting to see how we go in the upcoming trade periods.

Very true. The media narrative is always framed in terms of winners and losers therefore important components of trades are conveniently excluded.

The other trade which is always talked about as being very expensive is Cameron to Geelong. The 3 first round picks are always referenced. What is never mentioned is the 2 second round picks Geelong got back. One is tied to Essendon and the other to GWS. Is there really all that much difference between 2 late first rounders (15,20) and likely early and mid second rounders. The way Cameron has slotted into the Geelong attack and formed a potent combination with Hawkins and Rohan I’d say Geelong are winning that trade as well (although early I know and as much as I hate to see Geelong recruiting well).
