And we lost by only 3 point with more scoring shots, more inside 50s, fewer clangers, more clearances, more hit outs, more contested possessions and more frees. Hate to think what would be said if we lost by double the margin.

And what if the last shot a goal had been a bit more to the right.  It's not the players, it's the lack of a coherent reliable system. Dock the pay of the coach until he works it out.

I couldn't agree more. Geelong came with a plan of keeping's off and it got them over the line. Goody always says that his team will play with a recognisable brand of footy focused on winning the contested ball. At the moment that brand resembles something from a Two Buck Shop.

Brayshaw : Team needs more minutes of him

Lever : Good  arm waver. Too big to be a rover/Too light to be big.=> in between

Petracca : Class considering tagged.

Harmes : Underutilised

Tomlinson/LAngford/ Hibberd : Stop Bombing

Viney / :  Get Ball / Disposal  ????

Oliver : Take game on !!!

Gawn : Shining light

Pickett/Rivers/Lochart : Give them time

Mc Donald : Lone big fwd very difficult spot

Fritsch : Suffered from poor delivery

I thought that Fritsch suffered more from an inability to mark the ball and not trying to widen the angle with his second kick on goal.........!!!!!!!!

This entire thread would have been completely different for starters.  That's how fickle this place can be sometimes.

There is only one thing that matters I AFL winning. You don't win and you rapidly become an also ran, your club shrinks are no longer important the MFC is the perfect example.

I'm not convinced about that. We were woeful. A win would not have hidden that, just at didn't hide the last 2 quarters of the blues game.

100% we were woeful, as we were against the Blues. There certainly wasn't the same sort of venom in here after that win though.

I guess I just find it interesting how much the narrative can change based on literally one kick.

We win yesterday and people would still be expressing disappointment at the way we are going (and rightfully so), but they'd also be talking about some of the better aspects such as us managing to find a way to win despite playing so poorly and being controlled for most of the game.

And the overall tone of the "3 word analysis" would be very different too - which was my initial point. Look no further than the one after the Carlton game, despite playing not much better.

Joeboy spot on - only better said by George on the outer who was 100% correct - neither side wanted to win we wanted to win less and clearly the coach has no idea how to do just that !!

Gawn - out-muscled by Fort

Viney - lack of sleep

Oliver - avoiding bumping opposition

Petracca - lacked recent energy

Tomlinson - defensive side stoppages

Brayshaw - still got it

Langdon - the defences friend

Salem - switch with melksham?

Harmes - working out role

Hibberd - good first half

Melksham - move down back

Hannan - a good hitout

Rivers - still did ok

May - steady and reliable

Fritsch - lack of physicality

McDonald - found some energy

Lockhart - needs some composure

Lever - struggled with judgement

Hunt - press too restricting

Pickett - good little player

Smith - handy size speed

VandenBerg - toughness been missed

I’ve learnt my lesson and promise to only provide positive 3 word analyses even when everyone is crap... including the players

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Essendon

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 2 Jacob van Rooyen

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #3 Christian Salem

Salem proved to be a valuable contributor as a reliable and solid one-on-one medium-sized defender in what was undoubtedly his most impressive season since the premiership year. He remains a highly capable rebounding option for the Demons as he approaches his 200th game at the club.
