Jeff's lucky he's playing in the modern era. 30 years ago, players had their own way of sorting out this sort of tactic. I think there is well and truly an onus on the AFL to send the strongest possible message in relation to such incidents.

There's an inequity here, eg if two players each got 3 weeks for belting each other in NAB Cup Round One and one player's team went on to play in the Grand Final he'd be right for the Home and Away season whereas the other bloke would still have his 3 weeks to serve. There'd be some sort of match payment discrepancy as well. Just seems a bit silly to me. Should be the same for everyone.

Given the lack of importance that NAB Cup holds then all suspensions should apply to H & A games. I still smart over the penalty given out to Michael Long in the 2000 Grand Final for almost crippling Simmonds. Got 2 NAB cup games.

Hmmm. I'd like to see their rationale, "we think four weeks is too severe for an intenional act that could have permanently damaged the vision of another player." If they do challenge, then I hope the AFL imposes the maximum penalty - it was a needless and violent act of stupidity that severly damages the reputation of the game. I think that they need to go away and assess the way they come up with these penalties. I agree with Fan, I think a player that does this should look to spend at least half a season on the sideline.

If it goes to the Tribunal and is confirmed he gets six weeks. The Club may well see its way to leaving well-enough alone.

The only mitigating factors are the apparent lack of injury and absolutely conclusive vision of the incident.

I'm more worried about johnson playing than farmer. I'd back in Bell on Farmer. But Johnson was just about BOG for both H&A games last year, and in the final was only beaten on the day by Miller from memory (I could have that wrong). If Freo are relieved of his services in round four that would make things a bit tricker for them, especially in defence, and particularly at the G.

He is a proven finals performer who can turn a match on his ear. Not even Whelan could hold him if he is switched on.

Johnson is a capable player who has the potential to improve on a good year last year.

Yeah, yeah, yeah Rhino. He was THEIR BOG. And as far as I'm concerned was as well performed on the day as Trapper, Ooze, Pickett, Brock, Davey or Green. It was a sensational day for the dees, as a TEAM, but he was the most dominant tall, IMO. Yes Farmer has hurt us in the past, but I am pleased with the WAY Bell plays him on match day. At worst I'd predict that a fit Jeff against a fit Bell would kick 2 goals, and I'm comfortable with that, especially if it frees up Wrecker to take someone else, or play looser and gather more possessions, as he showed a propensity for in 2006.

Over those 2 H&A matches Johnson was clearly their best performed. That's more than enough for me to worry more about his match-up than Jeff's, particularly when we have our KPD problems, Johnson can play both ends equally well and they have so many talls to call upon (Tarrant, Pavlich, McPharlin etc etc).

Yep. I would be more worried about MJ on the day than JF, assuming both were to play. Boil it all down and I'd still pick us at the G in any scenario, but it would advantage us GREATLY if both guys didn't play.

Found guilty, given six weeks and unfortunately therefore will miss the Round 4 clash Melbourne v Fremantle!!!

Clearly, it's a travesty of justice that we should be deprived of the opportunity to see our great Wizard playing against us on the MCG. I guess we'll have to wait till grand final day to see him play against us on the G.

As much as I hate to say it, I had very big wraps on the Dockers this year.

I think it’s fair to say that on Jeffs 6 week’s suspension alone, they are going to struggle now. 6 weeks is a long time, then finding form afterwards, he thrives on confidence young Jeffery, and I reckon he could struggle to find it when he returns.
