What, like Watts? Scully? Trengove? Toumpas? Sorry mate, but you literally can't argue that a draftee with 0 games is a safer bet than players who have been in the system a few years already. You could certainly argue they have more talent, more potential, but there is no exact science to drafting as the examples above show.

I never said pick 2 had to be part of getting Langdon. You can re-read my post if it was too complicated for you the first time, I'm not going to explain it again. My hypothetical is about getting us a mix of draftees and known young players that fill specific needs for us as a club. As I said earlier, you obviously think we're one 18 year old player away from success, but I believe we have wider problems than that.

As I also said, I'm not against getting Anderson at all, I rate him very highly, but I'm also open to other possibilities to improve our overall list, especially our depth for pacy players who can kick goals. You're not, and that's fine, they're all just opinions.

I am not sure why you have listed Scully in that list? Regardless, who are the best midfielders in the game?

Dangerfield, Selwood,  Martin, Cotchin, Cripps, Bont, Coniglio, Heaney, Oliver, Sidebottom, Fyfe, Macrae, Cunnington, Neale**, Zorko**, Shiel, Treloar, DeGoey, Kelly**, Yeo**, Shuey**.

There is no guarantee obviously but the majority of the top liners were taken with picks before 19.

Stop being so condescending and think about how stupid your point is. Excluding Langdon, then you have essentially traded pick 2 for Petrucelle and pick 19 and 25 (you then traded pick 19 for Langdon which is irrelevant as we could just trade our current 2nd round pick for him).

So you are trading pick 2 AND OUR pick 39 for Petrucelle and pick 19 and 25.

Either way we get 2 draftees, the only difference is you seem to think that Petrucelle is the difference, as that would be the only difference in the 2 scenarios.

You either don't rate Andersson as highly as you claim or you rate Petrucelle a bit too highly.

I am all for going after certain types of players, but there is no need to include pick 2 unless it is for an elite talent (Ben King) or a proven quality player.

He's not that good at the moment lacks a footy brain and benefits greatly from being in a forward set up which is the best in the comp.

A couple of more years and with that speed will pose a lot of problems for opposition defences, Eagles are well run and don't generally lose players but with some good young guns needing to be resigned and Kelly or Coniglio wont come cheap so some will be squeezed out. Petrucelle will be cheaper now than he will in a couple more seasons

10 seconds later, West Coast took the free kick for an out on the full.

So we’ve already got a faster guy on the team who does brilliant run downs and brutal tackles.

But yeah, let’s bag him anyway because it’s the done thing.

Haha.

Jeez you're a sensitive soul if you view that as bagging or bashing.

I merely pointed out a fact. Yeh he made the great tackle. But gave it straight back. So what's to like?

See his effort against Reid just then?

Take those Rosey glasses off.

You’re picking single efforts as much as me.

I’ll remove the rose coloured glasses when you remove the [censored]-stained ones.

Deal?

What he offers the side is nearly always balanced out by the unfathomable howlers he makes.

I was simply pointing out that after he made that impressive run down tackle, he kicked the ball out on the full.

Which is something we see far too often from the guy.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
