I was baffled by the Preuss trade.....does anyone think he'll get many games this year? Assuming Gawn stays fit?

Just one thing is absolutely certain, jumbo - nobody can tell at this stage.

Good hitout and one has to temper any comment by the weather conditions and the inability to tell what side each team had on the oval at any one time.

That being said there seemed to be only a few positives from the fringe brigade. I was hoping that one of them would have a "look at me" performance but it wasn't to be.

Based on last year there are at least two spots up for grabs. One as a relief midfielder given the possibility of injury to the first picked group and one to replace Lewis as the season progresses.

Hope JKH plays next week and has a stand out game. Late last year he showed glimpses.

I'll be honest Stretch worries me and the jury is well and truly out on Hunt.

The last few seasons have shown us clearly that having an A grade VFL side does not mean you have depth at AFL level.

Conversely I watched Brayshaw closely at VFL level while he was there and he rarely starred. On that form I would never have picked him for the incredible season he displayed at AFL level in 2018.

Would have liked to see KK in the JLT as well.

Going to be a great season.

After watching the entire recorded game, I have the following observations...

  • Jordan did some nice things, was clean with the ball and might be our find of the draft
  • Preuss had more influence than I had given him credit for. I have moved him from 'disappointing' to 'serviceable'
  • Best were Oliver, Brayshaw, Harmes, Salem & Fritsch, who all seem destined to continue on their merry way in 2019
  • Other 'serviceables' are JKH, Oscar, Hore, Weids, Kielty, C Wagner, J Smith, Petty, Spargo & Petracca
  • 'Off-day' award, Tom McD & ANB
  • Needing to do more to crack round 1 are Stretch, Frost, Hunt & J Wagner
  • A fair way off are Maynard and Sparrow, for different reasons
  • Unavailable due to injury... Jeffy

NOTE: 'serviceable' = Had some good moments, gave something appropriate for the level, but inconsistent or faded out

Kozzy Pickett was the man of the match last week and has a vote lead over backup ruck Max Heath who didn't play this week and 5 votes over former Saint Jack Steele. Who gets the votes in this weeks shortened match win over the Tigers? Your votes please. 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 & 1.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

It’s late February. Two teams widely predicted to finish near the foot of the AFL table in 2026 face off against each other in sweltering 30-degree heat deep in outer suburbia in a match simulation with fresh new faces and uneven team numbers. There are no nearby sheep stations on offer; the result promises nothing more than bragging rights for the winner. Nevertheless, the loser appears hopelessly adrift, whereas the other seems to have found its footing after a couple of years of struggle – perhaps a hint at bigger things to come?
