A key defender with great potential, Petty had one game at AFL level against St Kilda but clearly wasn’t ready at the time. He went back to Casey where he showed some linear improvement so despite the disappointing start to his career, we expect bigger and better things for him with a full pre season behind him.

Clearly the decision to play Petty against St Kilda was a massive error, but otherwise he progressed well in his first season at the club. If the club doesn't go stupid trying to bolster the defence in the off season, he should be legitimately in the hunt for senior games in the second half of next season.

Rivalled Col Garland for worst debut, but in shouldn't be held against him. Looks to have the goods as a KPD. Just needs time and size. I hope he earns a few more games in 2019. Personally more impressed with him than Baker, but it's early days. Played well in the VFL GF I thought.

Give him time, he has the class and will come good in the end.

Without question. Certainly not a great debut for Petty but heartbreaking, no. Has footy smarts, just got overwhelmed.

I'm glad the vfl was televised this season because watching him in the 2s gave me some faith in his ability. Will benefit from more games and will be certainly be called on if poor form or injuries happen to our back 6.
