With us sealing our finals berth yesterday, PJ's brief has been fulfilled. When I say that, it wasn't merely the obvious statistic that came to the fore.

I cast you back to 2013 and one of his earlier interviews when the club had few people that could speak with authority.

What he said about being a 'resilient club' started to come to the fore yesterday. Years ago had the Swans loss happened, then the shutters would have gone up and we would have imploded. 

Yesterday, with the Eagles constantly coming at us, with their muppet supporters  acting like it was the 1919 World Series and with the football media writing us off, we FINALLY showed some real grit. That was what we were lacking when PJ came in and I don't think it's a coincidence that we are showing 10 times more of it after 5 years with him as CEO.

That hopefully will be PJ's legacy moving forward. I dream of the day when we are spoken of in similar terms to the Swans in that we are known as a club that never lays down and never gives up. If we do, it will be largely due to the work that he put in.

    Can remember this On The Couch very well. I thought PJ was going to sign Roosey up on live TV! 

    An extremely difficult job and we were coming from a long way back. There's probably only a handful of people that could have taken this job. Thank you PJ for everything!

    Good thread.

    I am absolutely rapt that we made finals during Jackson's tenure.  Many have contributed but undoubtedly, he is the architect of where we are today. 

    I can imagine him smiling within but saying:  Well done, the jobs not finished yet boys!  But where ever we end up in September he will leave brim full of pride and satisfaction. 

    Endless thank you, Mr Jackson.  The team have set up a fitting farewell for you:  Finals.  It is what you promised us and you delivered.

    Watching that clip reminded me of the bad years, of being a losers club, getting thumped weekly and winning only 2 for the year. I had nearly forgotten them this week. Thanks.... ?

    IMO, the struggle years are an important part of our story. The club and supporters are the footballing equivalent of Andy Dufresne: we waded through five football fields of [censored] to come out clean on the other side.

    Thanks PJ. You took on a club 6 years ago that was almost dead. 

    We are alot more healthy now, with still a long way to go and a lot more to prove. 

    But that proving can only happen in September...

      Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

    • REPORT: North Melbourne

      I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

    • CASEY: Werribee

      The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
