Based on this tweet I have a good feeling we might see the debut of the Ginger Ninja.

Imagine a firing and improved Hunt plus Baker peeling off the HBF's in 5 years time.

Watch the presser: http://www.melbournefc.com.au/video/2018-07-04/media-conference-simon-goodwin

He only mentions Baker because he was asked specifically about him, but also mentions theres a few things he needs to still improve so I don't think he'll get a game this week. He later on says there's a few players at VFL level putting up their hands for selection.

Those media quote's can be very misleading at times without the context.

He might also do it to remind any players on the cusp there are young whipper snappers ready to take their spot.

Yeah that makes sense. Just looking at the tweet alone reminded me of last week's presser and the comment about Petty. If it was the reporter that initiated it then perhaps he might not play.

Dec a chance?

I'd like to see him played as a forward to see if he can provide some speed but I get why the club are keen to develop him as a wingman and to play that role at AFL level I think he needs at least another preseason for fitness and he needs to work on his kicking. Right now the ball lobs of his boot and that can mean a lot of missed targets at AFL level.

Stretch is the safer option if we want an outside runner. Spargo and/or rolling the dice on Jeffy for a forward. Only if they want to really make big changes would Baker come in and play a bit wing a bit forward I think. Hopefully he stacks a few good games together though so the coaches are forced to look at how he could improve the side.

Yeah he is, and a real good one at that. Has had a couple of media mentions this week and we think it's a real possibility. I've been trying to keep my excitement down until we know for sure.

hope not. don't want another petty type debut. backline is fragile enough at the moment

it's got to be frost (despite his tendencies)

  • REPORT: Collingwood

The media focus on the fiery interaction between Max Gawn and Steven May at the end of the game was unfortunate because it took away the gloss from Melbourne’s performance in winning almost everywhere but on the scoreboard in its Kings Birthday clash with Collingwood at the MCG. It was a real battle reminiscent of the good old days when the rivalry between the two clubs was at its height and a fitting contest to celebrate the 2025 Australian of the Year, Neale Daniher and his superb work to bring the campaign to raise funds for motor neurone disease awareness to the forefront. Notwithstanding the fact that the Magpies snatched a one point victory from his old club, Daniher would be proud of the fact that his Demons fought tooth and nail to win the keenly contested game in front of 77,761 fans.

  • POSTGAME: Collingwood

Despite effectively playing against four extra opponents, the Dees controlled much of the match. However, their inaccuracy in front of goal and inability to convert dominance in clearances and inside 50s ultimately cost them dearly, falling to a heartbreaking one-point loss on King’s Birthday.
