The Mythical Hundred

I think we're missing a good chunk of players from the 2006-2011 era that were expected to be among the club centurions by now.

For example, the likes of Bate, Petterd and maybe even Cook are three players that come to mind that just might have featured in the 100+ goal category club if Neeld hadn't been appointed coach.

I'm all for a good Neeld bagging, but gee it's stiff to blame him for Cook.

Given the kid never played.. Hardly his fault.

I understand the desire for a big KPF a la Neiter to kick a bag every week, but I'm less fussed at the monent given our average scores for the year - we're doing pretty well offensively (120, 86, 97, 75, 112, 91). Average 83 points a game, 3 of which without Hoges who is scoring ~ 3 per game. Not far off...

I'm not nessasarily saying we need another key fwd. Just more forwards/players who can kick goals! Another Garlett or Kent or Watts?

Aside from the calls for a Bruest or Gunston. What about a delisted player? Lindsay Thomas is currently drawing the ire of Kanga fans for suspension and form and might be delisted at the end of the year. If he was free, why not? He's kicked 322 goals in 200 games. He's currently 29 and maybe has another year or two.

I'm glad demonland doesn't have a downvote button after this comment although the Moderators could ban me. :)

Garlett now needs 5 goals to bring up 100 at melbourne in and from 50 Games for Melbourne.

Lets hope he does on QB.

And with rumours flying around Hogan may be back QB (and only needs 4 to kick his 100th) Let's hope both of these milestones happens and we make it 5 in a row against those flogs from Victoria Park!

The fact that 100 career goals is mythical to Demons fans shows how woeful the cub has been as far as individual accomplishments and career goal tallies.

We have been around over 100 years, yet in five or so years from now both of the new clubs, GWS and GOld Coast, will each have a player (Cameron and Lynch) that will eclipse our leading goalkicker (Neitz).

But its not just goals we are terrible at - Nathan Jones average of 28.05 disposals in 2016 was the highest season average in MFC history.  Jack Vineys 26.1 in 2016 was the 4th highest in MFC history.

These are embarasingly low numbers for club records.

Why do we suck so badly statistically?

Not sure. I bet Fred Fanning knows the reason.

With Hogan & Garlett back in the side. Wouldn't it be nice if they both bought up the 100 this week against The Blues!

Also noticed Pertracca now has more Goals than games and also has 10 more McCartin with a year less in the game!

Bringing up his 100th goal in his 50th game has some symmetry to it

Hogan now has 105 from 50 games. Better than 2 a game!

If he stays a Demon for his whole career,  Neitz's goals record will be challenged.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
