Brayshaw & Oliver

My favourite part of this list is there are strong cases for each of Gus, Oliver, CP5, Hogan, Gawn, Tyson and Viney being out best player in the next 5 years. I'd like to see Salem play a full season because he has the skills to get right up this list also. But for now I agree. Gus has the most immediate upside for me.

I think the best thing is they all bring something different (the mids, flankers types). I'd even add Kent to the list if he can string 20 games together. You forgot Hunt though. There is another different thing again.

Edit... And Billy the Kid... So many. if 50% come on like we hope that's a serious team

I like Gus. I really do. There were times in 2015 that I saw him create something out of nothing. Speed, evasiveness, long, pin point kicks to Jeffy or Hoges. I think he has a higher ceiling than most at the club. Don't get me wrong... I see great things in a lot of the kids at our club, but Gus has something that makes me think he will be an absolute champion... Simon Black style... when he's a little bigger, older and wiser. A real footballers footballer, and we are lucky to have him.

I agree. He is the most 'pure' footballer on out list. Hogan and Clarry of the same mould. They have things you cannot teach.

I love Kent i think he has huge upside and could be a dominant small forawd he is going to be hugely missed if his injury keeps him out of the first few rounds but i dont think he will ever be our best player. The good part is that isnt a knock on him but its just that the mids could be so good But yes i have missed Hunt. And even TMac if he continues to improve his kicking (which despite the flack he cops he is impoving) then i think he could become a/the top shelf CHB in the competition.

I'd throw Hunt right up in that mix too. His speed is the obvious strength but he complements that with contested ball wins and he tackles like a madman. Once he has played around 50 games he will be much more consistent and will learn to pick up some easy possessions also.

Love both of them and believe they'll be two of our most important players come finals time in future years.

But generally disagree with the 'class' label for Brayshaw. I think his kicking is pretty hit and miss and is in no way elite. Really handy that he is comfortable on either side, but his kicking is pretty middle of the road. If anything, I prefer his left foot field kick to his right. Is generally straighter and spins better.

Absolutely.  Still horribly underrated around these parts.  To be fair, he has probably earned his spot ahead of Gus and even Oliver at this stage.  He was the more consistent of the three last year and, while I don't mean to sell Oliver or Gus short, Stretch had a terrific second half to the year.

It's a great conundrum to have, though.

He has bulked up and looks more able to get the hard ball. One of the best users of the footy we have got along with Salem. Has a bit of toe as well.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
