What players do you see over the next few years requesting a trade due to not being able to crack the 22?

Lumumba is already out and Vince may well retire, so maybe it is only Garland? Spencer seems to be going OK judging by the training reports and is both our insurance with Gawn and a vital cog with the Casey Demons. Similarly, we should allow Trenners, ANB and Kennedy this year to prove themselves at senior level but, in the interim, each are contributing at Casey so we are hardly carrying them.

Unless he has a really horrible year I doubt Bernie will retire. I think the club will want him around at least for 2018 and at the end of that year he will be 33 remembering many are still capable at 34/35 i think if he can keep his body right he can continue to be a player for a few more years yet.

I reckon the footy department views Kent and Salem as best 22. I expect most others here do too.

 

Whilst I know the title of the thread is about players who might request a trade, putting players like Kent, ANB, and Salem on this list is interesting because even players who are best 22 players will be shopped around or traded for 'upgrades'.  The club and the list development is about getting depth, and a strong list will throw up opportunities for players to request trades to go elsewhere, but also for the club to have a valuable currency during the trade period.

I could quite easily picture a player like the ones mentioned above be offered as part of a trade in years to come, regardless of whether they have cracked the 22 or not.

As we become a destination club, and the list becomes stronger, our players also become more valuable by extension.

No way. I reckon Bernie has plenty of juice left in the tank. And he's absolutely part of this journey - he still has fire in the belly. Needs to go back on the ball though, especially against Geelong.

seeing as vince signed a new deal last year, i can't see him retiring at the end of 2017.

the obvious candidates of players who may look for further opportunity would include trengove (one year deal), garland (will struggle to get offers, you'd think, with a two year deal remaining), jkh (injuries have hurt his ability to press for a spot in the senior side), hulett (big blokes take time but he may see more opportunities at a side calling out for a tall forward), anb (looks good enough for afl), kennedy (in / out of two afl sides now, i think he's good enough personally but will have to fight for a spot in our side), vandenberg (may see more opportunity elsewhere), spencer (1 year deal, is a free agent, ruckmen are always in demand).

what i like about our list profile is that - with a couple of exceptions - we've got players who will be pushing for a spot in the side every week.
