Nice pick Wadda (and Gator) - thanks!  Bonus bets at work again.

Well,  we went 2 from 3 today and I was betting with house money with the win bets on our picks.

Terrific acceleration by the horse too - it's got some real speed.

Ill admit i was worried about the kid on board, but he got his first win at Flemington now, so there you go......

I took Sixties Groove and Invincible Al into the Dees @ the line of +11.5 for a return of around 250.....so lets go Demons!!

Demons are out to 2.75 and Geelong 1.48......seems a little one sided....

And next Monday at Rosehill we'll see a star-studded trial featuring Winx,  Chautauqua and a whole host of other topliners

Chautauqua fails to jump again. I think the horse took one look, saw Winx and realised how this was going to end, hence “ Nah, I’ll stay in the barriers thanks”. ?

I just saw that on my computer dispatches. Who in their right mind would take on WinX first thing in the morning.

Devastating news DZ ... I hope they give the horse another chance to jump although the chances of that happening aren't great.  Such a shame but I suppose the horse is telling us it just doesn't want to race again.

It’s a real shame Macca. The horse possesses one of the most devastating sprints I have ever seen on a racetrack. You never know though, they might try again with him.

Such a unique situation in a way, I can’t recall a previous top line galloper being retired  from a refusal to jump in trials.

I hope they just persevere with barrier trials until it's obvious that the horse isn't interested ... it's not like Chautauqua has refused to jump on 10-15 occasions.   It's a gelding so the connections have got nothing to lose.

Apart from anything else it's one hell of an intriguing conundrum DZ and if they retire the horse there will always be that 'what-if' question surrounding the horse.

Oddly enough I've never backed the horse (for some unknown reason) so I'm not talking through my hip-pocket.  Or maybe I am in terms of the future ha ha ... if it ever races again I'm getting on!

Haha, I’ll be backing him as well Macca. I’ve had a couple of flutters on him in the past, not when he’s won of course. ?

In other news, El Magnificence has accepted this Wednesday at Sandown. Race 5. It’s got the Dan Zephyr syndrome, drawing barrier 16 of 16. The race is over 1000m, back in distance will probably suit the horse.  Bet365 markets currently have the horse at $13.

Well there's only the one turn at Sandown over the 1000m and from the barriers there's a 500m straight run to that turn ... as you can see from the image below the turn isn't a sharp one either.  It's got a fair amount of good early speed so it should be able to get into a good position with a bit of luck.

The top 3 fancies in the race have got some reasonably decent form but none of them are Nature-Strip like or even Gold-Mag like.   It's a chance.

By the way,  the winner broke 34 seconds for the last 600 on a Soft5 in El's last race at Sandown.

Thanks for that @Macca I can see it mapping out that way. Great preview....move over Gator.

I had no idea about Gold Mag’s last 600m and i went to the track. That’s one serious quick sectional on the soft. Connections will be finding it hard to curb their excitement about the horse’s future.

Racenet.com has a results section where the times and last 600 are available the next day ... the data goes back 12 months which is a handy aid.

As for the El-Mag race,  if one could figure out the right trifecta or F4 combination,  there's some money to be made.  There's about 5 or 6 winning chances and up to a dozen horses could run a place!

$4.30 the place with a little on for the win might be the go?

Terrific place value at the moment. I was thinking the same bet Macca.

If he can get the front without too much work from the wide draw he could be hard to toss from the placings over the 1000m.

I will put a call through to mate tomorrow and post any updates tomorrow night or Wednesday morning the latest.

Great info guys, ill be on board. Good luck.

Spoke to mate a short time ago.

Plan is to get the horse behind the leaders and take a sit behind them and let him go at the furlong. They will certainly need some luck to get to the desired position from a wide barrier.

Horse had a jump out last week with a barrier blanket and the blinkers in an attempt to make him jump better. He’s been sprawling a tad out of the gates recently. He didn’t jump all that well but worked home well through horses. I believe blinkers will be on for the first time and hopefully it works out like it did for the Zephyr.

The track could suit the outside horses later in the day or it may not. Hard to gauge how a track will play out. If the horse does get stuck 3 wide hopefully he can get some cover during the run.

Good luck all if you have a wager.

Great finish, fought on well. I won a bit on the place bet getting in early at 4.20.

There was a huge plunge and he started at 5.50 and 2.10

Was nominated pick of the mounting yard and they put it on top, in the pre race picks on Racing.com

Missed the trifecta, didnt have the 8.

I missed the boat with the good place dividend Wadda. I saw $16 and $5 on TAB this morning and didn’t take it. Thought I’d wait. That was one decent plunge late.( It wasn’t me)

I thought it was a very good run considering he was trapped the widest for the majority. Couldn’t get a decent spot. I’m not suggesting the horse would have won but it would have finished a lot closer.

Anyways, on to Saturday fellas.

I got the 4.20 for the place on offer on Monday but the money did come for El late ...ran on well considering if was pushed quite wide by the horses inside it nearing the turn.  Just didn't quite have the pace to go with Illumicon from the jump.

It will run in easier BM64's but I'm not sure how that whole benchmark system works ... does a 3rd placing push up a horses rating by much @Dee Zephyr  @Wadda We Sing  ?

Anyway,  any time you can more than triple your outlay is a good result from a punting perspective.  By my reckoning they ran a very handy time for the 1000m on a Soft6 too - around 58 seconds flat or thereabouts.

Yes its beyond me Macca, no idea really. If its anything like the old system im pretty sure you have to win to go up in grade.

Despite a spirited third quarter surge, the Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, remaining winless and second last on the ladder after a 39-point defeat to Essendon at Adelaide Oval in Gather Round.

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

As the focus of the AFL moves exclusively to South Australia for Gather Round, the question is raised as to what are we going to get from the  Melbourne Football Club this weekend? Will it be a repeat of the slop fest of the last three weeks that have seen the team score a measly 174 points and concede 310 or will a return to the City of Churches and the scene where they performed at their best in 2024 act as a wakeup call and bring them out of their early season reverie?  Or will the sleepy Dees treat their fans to a reenactment of their lazy effort from the first Gather Round of two years ago when they allowed the Bombers to trample all over them on a soggy and wet Adelaide Oval? The two examples from above tell us how fickle form can be in football. Last year, a committed group of players turned up in Adelaide with a businesslike mindset. They had a plan, went in confidently and hard for the football and kicked winning scores against both home teams in a difficult environment for visitors. And they repeated that sort of effort later in the season when they played Essendon at the MCG.
