Hi fellas.

It was your idea @Macca, more than happy for you to have a selection for the win. I’m happy to be the 4th this week or maybe we can go with an emergency system.

For example, Wadda, Macca, Binman place a selection for 1st which also goes in for 2nd and 3rd. That leaves 3 horses for 2nd and 3rd to be added, hope I’m getting this right. The same 3 people each pick a horse for the additional placegetters. If selections aren’t in say by 12.00pm on raceday in steps the emergency with their selection of a winner and additional placegetter.

I hope that makes sense, long day at work today.

I reckon the person who picks 4th should get the 5th pick ... we need all contributing D77.  Your expertise is needed.

Think of it this way,  the first 3 come up with 3 possible winners and then the onus goes onto the 4th contributor.  A bit like the 'Skip' in foursomes.  Except that person then has the 5th pick as well.

And then the 6th pick is up for grabs - maybe a consensus vote?

D77 makes a good point tho....often in trifectas you have the same runner for winner, as coming second and third......so the 3 first picks also are 2nd and 3rd.....is that the way we play it? Then the fourth pick is also 2nd and 3rd. Then the fifth pick is also 2nd and 3rd? That would make 5 picks in total?? Yes it needs tweeking by all of us.

3 - 6 - 6  would mean 6 picks in total.

It will probably make more sense in the morning for all of us - my brain is hurting with all these numbers flying around.  A trifecta 'nightmare' is on the cards.

And you guessed it - Tom salutes!

That will work Macca. I’m still putting my hand up for the 4th contributor this week.

You think you've got problems, i have a heavy metal band wanting to do their film clip in my house in a few weeks ~ !! I need 2 cups of tea~!!

Come to think of it, Macca is spot on, the onus falls on the 4th contributor. Happy with more suggestion fellas, I don’t want to blow the first trifecta.

@Wadda We Sing have your leathers ready!! Make sure you’re in the film clip :)

Ok i was thinking 3-5-5.

Also, the Zephyr is nominated for two decent races at Caulfield again this week. One is a set weights race, I don’t think he’s ever had a start in one of those, I’ll have to check.

Ok then D77... and I'm happy for you to have the 5th pick seeing you've missed out on picking a winner.  That seems fair to me.

I might just wait a bit though ... there's rain forecast for Friday & Saturday up there.  I won't be too late though as I don't want to hold up the works.

Wadda's choice Trapeze Artist can win from anywhere in it's current form and it won the Expressway Stakes on a soft5 back in early February.

I suggested 3 - 6 - 6 because of the potential size of the field and therefore the possibility of a decent dividend. But the field might drop down to 13 or 14.

3 - 5 - 5 works as well and we're sorted after 5 picks aren't we?

Your good self,  binman & myself pick a winner whilst D77 has 2 goes at the placegetters.  If we as individuals choose to include another horse we can do so on our own volition.

So 3 - 5 - 5 it is yeah?  Full dividend cost $36 which is more palatable and workable.

These are the fields for Caulfield at “weights” stage. Acceptances are tomorrow morning.

Will go through all his form now to see if he’s had a start at weight for age.

They are running around for a bit of money at Caulfield on Saturday ... 2 x 300k,  3 x 250k & 2 x 150k what with the Inglis/Vobis qualified horses.

Some good fields and 'Nature Strip' is back running along with 'Cliff's Edge'.

In other news RSN had former jockey Wayne Treloar on this morning for a fascinating interview ... for those who are interested you can listen here

Dan Zephyr has performed ok at set weights. He’s had about 3 or 4 starts.

3rd in the Gold Bullion at Pakenham in 2015 to Burning Front, 3rd again in the same race in 2016, this time to Grande Rosso and Burning Front.

A 4th by 1.9 lengths at $51 to Redzel in The Heath back in November 2016. Those days are truly behind him now unfortunately.

Done deal Macca. No pressure on me because I know you three will box the trifecta with your winning selections.:P

Ha!  And boxing the top 3 has just become an option ... punters lament therefore eliminated!

I'm reminded of the Newmarket trifecta which I got ... my 3 on top finished 1, 2 & 3 and it paid well over $200.   3 top horses too - Redkirk Warrior,  Brave Smash & Merchant Navy.  I'm still surprised that it paid so well.

Lol, well done Macca, PL eliminated indeed. $6 for 100%. We could worse than that.

That was a great dividend for the race you mention above, you’ve always said it though, the bigger races generate ridiculous pools sometimes, hence the decent dividends.

And the weight difference put people off the 2 class horses in the race ... but as David Hayes has often said,  over the sprint distances,  the topweight class horses can carry the weight and still run blistering times and beat the lightweights.

The big pools too make a big difference ... I like to have a go at the overseas Group 1's occasionally but the dividends for Trifectas aren't great.

Barrier draw tomorrow for the All Aged.  All important too as there's a quick 300 metre dash to the first turn over the 1400m at Randwick.

I won't do my form to Friday. But trapeze artist was super impressive kast start. I backed le romain last start at huge odds.. A very talented horse but doesn't win out of turn. Those sort of horses often upset the aplle cart. Like catchy an wstb last sat.

I believe @Wadda We Sing has already picked Trapeze Artist to win so you & I need to come up with a winner each binman.   As you mentioned,  there are a number of possible winners and the 1400m can be tricky at Randwick.

Anti climax. They didn’t accept with Dan Zephyr on Saturday. He’s nominated for a race at Ballarat on Sunday but we’ll worry about that if Saturday proves less than fruitful.

The trainer of Trapeze Artist (Gerald Ryan) was quoted as saying that the horse is ideally suited to the 1400m and could run even further up to a mile and maybe even 2000m.  Could be some sort of horse if that's true but at the same time the horse has been touted as being worth up to $40Million at stud.

There are a few horses in the All Aged Stakes that can run great races and on their day,  they'd be hard to catch.  Trapeze is currently $2.40 for the win and the next best is around $9.50 and more.  That seems to be too big a gap.

Best bet ...

Randwick  Race 5  No.4  So Far Sokool  (4.50)  ... was extremely impressive at Bendigo a couple of Saturday's ago running a very slick time over the 1400m - streeted its rivals.

This race isn't an overly strong one and the horse has drawn a good gate (4) ... the 1.80 on offer for the place might be the safer bet in a multi but I genuinely believe the horse can win.

Best Bet: Randwick Race3 No.2 Dothraki Current odds: Tab $2.70

Ultra consistent gelding. Only one unplaced start in the last 5 and that was by only 3.9len.

The dangers I came up with in the race are Burning Passion (3) and Bolero King (8). Dothraki beat both of them home last start carrying 59kg. He carried 2kg more than Burning Passion and 6kg more than Bolero King on that occasion. He meets them much better this week at the weights and for that reason I make him my top selection.

Respect for the top weight also coming back from 2 Group 1’s.

The Zephyr has accepted at Ballarat on Sunday. Race 7. Very surprised they would choose to run the horse at 1000m. I will have some mail by Sunday for those that would consider a buck or two on him. Remember, still on a 17 run losing streak. ??

  • NON-MFC: Round 05

Gather Round is here, kicking off with a Thursday night blockbuster as Adelaide faces Geelong. The Crows will be out for redemption after a controversial loss last week. Saturday starts with the Magpies taking on the Swans. Collingwood will be eager to cement their spot in the top eight, while Sydney is hot on their heels. In the Barossa Valley, two rising sides go head-to-head in a fascinating battle to prove they're the real deal. Later, Carlton and West Coast face off at Adelaide Oval, both desperate to notch their first win of the season. The action then shifts to Norwood, where the undefeated Lions will aim to keep their streak alive against the Bulldogs. Sunday’s games begin in the Barossa with Richmond up against Fremantle. In Norwood, the Saints will be looking to take a scalp when they come up against the Giants. The round concludes with a fiery rematch of last year's semi-final, as the Hawks seek revenge for their narrow loss to Port Adelaide. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?

  • CASEY: Geelong

There was a time in the second quarter of the game at the Cattery on Friday afternoon when the Casey Demons threatened to take the game apart against the Cats. The Demons had been well on top early but were struggling to convert their ascendancy over the ground until Tom Fullarton’s burst of three goals in the space of eight minutes on the way to a five goal haul and his best game for the club since arriving from Brisbane at the end of 2023. He was leading, marking and otherwise giving his opponents a merry dance as Casey grabbed a three goal lead in the blink of an eye. Fullarton has now kicked ten goals in Casey’s three matches and, with Melbourne’s forward conversion woes, he is definitely in with a chance to get his first game with the club in next week’s Gather Round in Adelaide. Despite the tall forward’s efforts - he finished with 19 disposals and eight marks and had four hit outs as back up to Will Verrall in the second half - it wasn’t enough as Geelong reigned in the lead through persistent attacks and eventually clawed their way to the lead early in the last and held it till they achieved the end aim of victory.

  • REPORT: Geelong

I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.

Facing the very real and daunting prospect of starting the season with five straight losses, the Demons head to South Australia for the annual Gather Round, where they’ll take on the Bombers in search of their first win of the year. Who comes in, and who comes out?

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit. Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?
