I've made up my mind as well ...

Best Bet - Rosehill Race 9  No.8  Don't Give A Damn

I'm probably going to multi up our combination 'Each Way' and then have a bit on the combo to win only in a separate bet.

If we only end up with 3 best bets that's ok - we all have the option of adding on to the combo if we so wish.

I like your choice @Demon77 ... as you said,  'Eurack' has put in 3 outstanding efforts for it's 3 runs.

Nice selection Macca. Both horses resuming with "light" weights.

I'll do the same, I've even placed a small amount on a win only multi with the 4 horses you originally short listed for your "Best" at Rosehill.

I'd rather have a couple of dollars on a multi that loses rather than feeling the "Punters lament" if it comes through and not having a dollar on it. Just testing the waters on that one since you have presented it to us. Will do the each way on those 4 as well but the markets don't have place odds currently for a couple of the runners.

Also, Goodfella has been scratched, only 7 going around in the Expressway.

Now I'm going to have to do the same

The punters lament indeed D77!

I will be more circumspect next week!

The topweight (Top Striker) is out as well now ... although it was a 100-1 shot and the other horses won't have to worry about getting around it!

Ace High is still not liked ... 17-1 seems overs even if the trip is a bit short.  I had settled on Global Glamour & Goodfella as my 2 to win (in a 2 - 5 - 5 multiple trifecta) but I'm putting Ace High in as the replacement for Goodfella.

Thronum won last Friday night's Australia Stakes starting at 5-1 in a 6 horse field - yet the Trifecta paid $244.

I've settled on the same combo , I'll have Ace High for first also but I can't decide if it goes with Global Glamour or Addictive Nature. I might have to sleep on it or toss a coin.

The race could feature a blanket finish.  And there might be a bit of give in the ground with rain forecast for most of the morning.

As much as I'm liking the parlay/multi/best bet concept I do like my trefecta's D77... going all over the place this weekend too (Caulfield,  Rosehill,  Ascot,  Sha Tin)  All feature races (Group/Listed) and all smallish fields.  Just the way I like it.

The Manfred Stakes (Race 8 Caulfield),  Scenic Blast Stakes (Race 6 Ascot) & The Centenary Vase (Race 3 Sha Tin - Sunday) all look to be good betting races despite the fields being small.

Along with the Expressway Stakes (Race 7 Rosehill) of course.

The W J Adams Stakes (Race 6 Caulfield) has an odds on favourite running (Snitty Kitty) and if it wins the race the Trifecta may not pay a great deal.

Kopi Lewak is out of Race 5

The fixed odds have come in a bit (in a general sense) ... I'll wait for a bit before putting my multi's on.

I was thinking the same Macca.

Eurack into $2.40 fixed now.

What are your thoughts on Dainty Tess in the Scenic?

Could be a case of great-minds-think-alike there D77 ... there's some comfort in a horse shortening in the market!

I haven't done multi's or W & P all that often lately so the shortening of the odds is quite noticeable ... the Tote odds are still reasonable so maybe it's a case of waiting a few hours.  I can put my trifecta's on at least.

With the multi's I'm probably just going to do a few 3 pick multi's for the win.  Each way as well on our Best Bet line-up.

And I've got Dainty Tess on top along with a bit of value in 'Volkoff' (12-1 on the Tote - 18-1 Fixed) Volkoff is meeting Caipirinha 3kgs better from their last encounter.

Unfortunately ive been preoccupied the last few days. Ive had a bit of a look, but i cant add much to what has already been noted. Ill put a few trifectas on following along the lines of what has been said with regard to the Expressway Stakes. Also im gonna put a parlay on Sydney R1/2 R6/9 R9/8 place only. Ill come up with some more later and we can post as the day goes along. Good luck!

Restless in the barrier, not his day. I pressed one of those buttons that allows you to miss a parlay leg, so no problem.

Now, i did something Ive never done before, parlayed 2 quinellas....! At Caulfield, R6 Crystal Dreamer and Snitty Kitty, into R7 Willi Willi and Bedford. They seem like standouts, which worries me, but i thought id do it anyway.

Racing.com doesnt have Rosehill?

Good luck with the quinella parlay Wadda. That would be some effort, I'll be cheering for you.

Racing.com have televised Sydney races in the past but doesn't seem like it today according to the listing anyway.

I like both Snitty Kitty & Bedford Wadda

It's too late now but I didn't see 'From Within'  as a standout ... will only mention horses from here on in that do standout (like 'Bye See' & 'Don't Give A Damn)

Like your thinking there with those quinella's ... we've got quite an array of choices when we include 'Eurack' and those that you have mentioned.  By the looks of it both @Demon77 and myself like Dainty Tess at Ascot later on too (Race 6)

I do like Dainty Tess Macca. At the moment I'm thinking Dainty Tess and Volkoff for first and second in a tri with 5 others for third.

I was looking forward to a session in front of the telly watching some good racing but the young ones all of a sudden want go watch the AFLW game all the way out at Casey. I'm in a spot of bother here.

That sounds like trouble D77, have fun at Casey.

Im thinking i might do what i do with Quaddies sometimes and take 1, 1, F, F. If the standouts get up, then its fun hoping for a roughy in the last 2 legs. Ive done ok with this method in the past at times.

You need your eyes everywhere following the races D77 ... had standout/best bet written all over it!

And the tri paid 172 with the fav winning in a 6 horse field.

'Fiesta' looked impressive winning the Widden Stakes at Rosehill.

Yes Macca, I didnt even bother to look at Brisbane or Adelaide races. It's quite often trainers take their horses to Adelaide during Victorian carnivals for the simple reason you stated above. Small fields, some say it's "money for jam".

Fiesta landed a few big bets too, I've also seen some big bets go down the drain in these early races.

The TV showed a bet in excess of 23k the win on 'Last Week' in the previous at Caulfield. It looked like the horse went around for practice.

No whip, hands and heels to the line. She could be a beauty this mare. Impressive indeed Macca.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

Hands up if you thought, like me, at half-time in yesterday’s game at TIO Traeger Park, Alice Springs that Melbourne’s disposal around the ground and, in particular, its kicking inaccuracy in front of the goals couldn’t get any worse. Well, it did. And what’s even more damning for the Melbourne Football Club is that the game against St Kilda and its resurgence from the bottomless pit of its miserable start to the season wasn’t just lost through poor conversion for goal but rather in the 15 minutes when the entire team went into a slumber and was mugged by the out-of-form Saints. Their six goals two behinds (one goal less than the Demons managed for the whole game) weaved a path of destruction from which they were unable to recover. Ross Lyon’s astute use of pressure to contain the situation once they had asserted their grip on the game, and Melbourne’s self-destructive wastefulness, assured that outcome. The old adage about the insanity of repeatedly doing something and expecting a different result, was out there. Two years ago, the score line in Melbourne’s loss to the Giants at this same ground was 5 goals 15 behinds - a ratio of one goal per four scoring shots - was perfectly replicated with yesterday’s 7 goals 21 behinds.
This has been going on for a while and opens up a number of questions. I’ll put forward a few that come to mind from this performance. The obvious first question is whether the club can find a suitable coach to instruct players on proper kicking techniques or is this a skill that can no longer be developed at this stage of the development of our playing group? Another concern is the team's ability to counter an opponent's dominance during a run on as exemplified by the Saints in the first quarter. Did the Demons underestimate their opponents, considering St Kilda's goals during this period were scored by relatively unknown forwards? Furthermore, given the modest attendance of 6,721 at TIO Traeger Park and the team's poor past performances at this venue, is it prudent to prioritize financial gain over potentially sacrificing valuable premiership points by relinquishing home ground advantage, notwithstanding the cultural significance of the team's connection to the Red Centre?
