The place bet might have just been overlooked on a mass scale ... but as you said DJ,  $1.04 was 'overs',  all things considered.

Was just about to sing the praises of 'Avilius' but it might lose the 'Bart Cummings' on protest ... hung in late and the 2nd horse looks like it will have a very good case.

I think Jaameh might have a good case too Macca. Was watching the race with dad as he had Jaameh one out in his daily double. Told him not to rip his ticket just yet after watching the head on.

Edit: Love the insight from the stewards room by the way. Both jocks making a good case.

Well I was on Avilius with 2 doubles & a treble and was resigned to losing out ... lucky to keep the win really.  I reckon Jaamah wins if not interfered with.

Avilius now a $9 favourite for the Melbourne Cup and Jaameh at $26.

For a moment I thought I better stop the beers as I was wondering why an overseas visitor by the name of Dyna Patty is favourite for the Melbourne Cup in my initial search. I was looking at the dishlickers market.?

3 Winners and a 3rd from our 4 picks today in a return to form by the 'A Day at the Races' crew ... got me a terrific return on the day.

Well done team!

I thought it would be upheld also Macca. Dad only invests $3 on his daily double so no biggie.

Amphitrite impressive, I’ll shout him a beer.

Amphitrite blew out to $5.40 fixed on Neds half an hour ago so I jumped on again. 3 out of 4 is marvellous work fellas.

And Thinkin' Big had to do a bit too much work otherwise we would have snagged all 4.  But we got lucky with Avilius so no complaints DZ.

I’m curious Macca. Most of these online bookies have the pay out policy on a horse for first past the post regardless if it loses a protest, that’s for a single win bet. Does this also apply for a multi bet?

Can't help you on that one DZ ... might have to give them a call to find out.  What I do know is that they all seem to have different policy's so good luck.

Only had one bet today - Sesar. Got $8.00 fixed but didn't see the race. Liked Youngstar and will be getting on for the Caulfield Cup.

Australian Group & Listed Races

Sunday midnight the 'Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe' will be run ... here's the form for the race from Racing Post  'Enable' is the hot favourite and it should win.  I might include the horse in a double or treble as the whole card at Longchamp features a number of top class events including 3 other Group 1 races.  Being shown on cable but the race may bob up on free-to-air.

Anyway,  next week we've got The Everest,  Caulfield Guineas,  Thousand Guineas,  Toorak Hcp,  Caulfield Stakes and a host of other Group races.  The racing just gets better from here on in.

Here are the replays of the Turnbull Stakes,  Spring Champion Stakes & The Bart Cummings Stakes from today.

The Winx win yesterday may well have been one of her best when analysing the race ... the sectionals run by the horse were simply amazing,  all things considered.  Read more here ...

Chris Waller: Winx closing sectionals in Turnbull Stakes 'as good as it gets'

  Quote

They revealed the wonder mare had run the first 800m in 50.82 seconds yet stormed home over the last 800m in 43.98 seconds.

Analysts said that was a difference of about 40-41 lengths.

Furthermore, she ran her last 600m in 32.21 seconds the last 200m she scorched in 10.87 seconds.

As 'Gator' pointed out on the racing review show on the racing channel this morning,  46 seconds for the last 800m is fast.  It should be noted that 'Youngstar' ran 44.30 for the last 800m as well and seemed to rally when Winx ran past her.   A definite Blackbooker.

Watched 'Enable' win another l'Arc de Triomphe last night but she only just held on ... however,  the win by Enable won't be enough to displace Winx as the World's best horse.  Read more here ...  Greg Carpenter: Enable won't dethrone Winx

Anyway,  here is the replay of the l'Arc de Triomphe along with the replays of the Roman Consul Stakes & Gilgai Stakes from Randwick & Flemington

One of Wadda's favourites in 'Osborne Bulls' has snagged a run in the Everest with the withdrawal of 'Home of the Brave' (elevated temperature)  Form Guide - The Everest

There's way too much to cover in terms of finding the 5 best betting races this weekend ... a case could be made for at least a dozen good betting races at Caulfield & Randwick.  I listed 16 very competitive races including a couple of listed races at Morphettville.

And there are 7 newly imported horses contesting the Caulfield Stakes & the Herbert Power Stakes just to complicate matters further for the punters.  Benbatl,  The Cliffsofmoher & Blair House are the 3 to watch in the Caulfield Stakes.  Racenet have done us the courtesy of rating the imports which is a real help.

Best Bet

Caulfield Race 3 No.1 Sunlight $3.10

The horse ran a blistering 44.80 over 800m in a trial on Monday whilst streeting her rivals so we may be seeing Sunlight return to her absolute best.

Best Bet

Caulfield Race 4 No.14 Leather ‘N’Lace

TAB: $5.50W $2.10P

I think it’s a real good each way chance and the place might also appeal to some.

Racing at Cranbourne tonight as part of their carnival with the feature event being Race 7 - The Inglis Pinker Pinker Plate - worth $100k.  It's not a bad betting race even though it's a small field.

On Sunday they race in the Cranbourne Cup worth a cool $350k ... a good field assembled for the race too.

But tomorrow's Caulfield meeting rivals Derby Day these days.  And up at Randwick they've added the 'Kosciuszko' & the 'St Leger Stakes' to an already more than decent card.  The heavy track may not suit a few in the Everest now so the race might be a little easier to dissect.

Gator has your horse as his best bet DZ along with 'The Autumn Sun' in the Guineas and he is in good form with his tips (as per usual)

But I don't mind 'Oohood' getting into the finish in the Guineas and 'Native Soldier' could scoot away around the final turn as well.  The Speed map for the race has Native Soldier settling 1st or 2nd.  And Oohood has charged home to get into the finish in every one of its 10 races and it has run sharp times,  every time.

Incredible racing card this weekend with many races nearly impossible to pick a winner...... Is there a heavy track at Randwick Macca?

Im sticking with a tried and true favourite, (what is the next number in this sequence)?.....1,2,1,2, ..

Caulfield Race 5 No 2 The mighty Voodoo Lad $3.60

Randwick is currently a Heavy9 and they are hoping for a Heavy8 if there isn't any more rain ... but rain is forecast for Sydney tonight & tomorrow so it could be a real bog.

Related - The talk emanating from Sydney is that they're quite keen to change a number of their racing dates to mid November up to early December where the weather is a lot more kinder.  The Everest along with the 'Championships' held in April could move to the later dates.

Top choice with Voodoo Lad Wadda ... loves the track and is in top form.  Hutchy's top pick too.

So the Best Bets for this week, with Binman to come, are:

Caulfield Race 3 No 1 Sunlight $3.10

Caulfield Race 4 No 14 Leather n Lace  $5.50

Caulfield Race 5 No 2 Voodoo Lad $3.60

Those 3 will get you around 60/1 depending on which betting agency you choose to go with...

Good luck punters..

I'm glad you do these collations Wadda as it reminds me to put on the multi with the help of the booster odds.  As you know,  Laddies give out a daily allowance  of booster bets so it pays to take advantage from Friday into Saturday.  Cheers

  • PREVIEW: West Coast

Saturday’s election night game in Perth between the West Coast Eagles and Melbourne represents 18th vs 15th which makes it a tough decision as to which party to favour. The Eagles have yet to break the ice under their new coach in Andrew McQualter who is the second understudy in a row to confront Demon Coach Simon Goodwin who was also winless until a fortnight ago. On that basis, many punters might be considering to go with the donkey vote but I’ve been assigned with the task of helping readers to come to a considered opinion on this matter of vital importance across the nation. It was almost a year ago that I wrote a preview here of the Demons’ away game against the Eagles (under the name William from Waalitj because it was Indigenous Round).  I issued a warning that it was a danger game, based on my local knowledge that the home team were no longer easybeats and that they possessed a wunderkind generational player in Harley Reid who was capable of producing stellar performances playing among men a decade and more older than he.  At the time, the Eagles already had two wins off the back of a couple of the young man’s masterclasses and they had recently given the Bombers a scare straight after their Anzac Day blockbuster draw against the then reigning premiers.

  • NON-MFC: Round 08

Round 08 of the 2025 AFL Season kicks off on Thursday with a must-win game for the Bombers to stay in touch with the top eight, while the struggling Roos seek a morale-boosting upset. Friday sees the Saints desperate for a win as well if they are to stay in finals contention and their opponents the Dockers will be eager to crack in to the Top 8 with a win on the road. Saturday kicks off with a pivotal clash for both sides asthe Bulldogs look to solidify their top-eight spot, while Port seeks to shake their pretender tag. Then the Crows will be looking to steady their topsy turvy season against a resurgent Blues looking to make it 4 wins on the trot. On Election Night a Blockbuster will see the ladder-leading Pies take on the Cats, who are keen to bounce back after a narrow loss. On Sunday the Sydney Derby promises fireworks as the Giants aim to cement their top-eight status, while the Swans fight to keep their season alive. The Hawks, celebrating their centenary, will be looking to easily account for the Tigers who are desperate to halt their slide. The Round concludes on Sunday Night with a top end of the table QClash with significant ladder implications; both Queensland teams are in scintillating form. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

The Demons hit the road in Round 8, heading to Perth to face the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium. With momentum building, the Dees will be aiming for a third straight victory to keep their season revival on course. Who comes in and who goes out?

  • REPORT: Richmond

The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.
