Re the protest in the Cox Plate

Protest being dismissed was the right decision but the interference did stop Anamoe's run to a degree. I just don't believe the interference was all that severe

We see a lot of brushing and slight bumps and to me that's just part of racing

Upholding the protest would have suited me as I had Anamoe going in a few bets (including a decent win bet)

Yeah it could have gone either way.

I stated it yesterday and I’ll state it again.
I hate MV.

Had a dirty day myself ... I reckon it's a track for the exotics.  There are too many variables to find winners consistently.  On-pacers often get into the finish

Anamoe wins and I break even for the day so I was barracking for the protest to be upheld even though I thought it should have been dismissed!! haha

Anyway, we move onto Derby Day ... Forgot You & Gunstock equal favourites at 5-2 and then it's 10-1 (or better) the field

Well we all bombed out today, how we can make a comeback Tuesday?

It was a great days racing. I do love Derby day, some great races here and in Sydney.
Was on I’m thunderstruck and then with a bonus when at $20 threw it on Count De Rupee just prior to the race starting, and I’ve never regretted not doing a quinella more in my life. 😂

Yeah Derby day is awesome for racing Gorg…value galore. Finished a little down but I’m still coming to terms with Icebath just losing. Pretty much everything was hinged on the horse….would’ve won a fair bit but that’s the game.

Same sort of thing with me ... had 'I'm Thunderstruck' & 'Hitotsu' in a number of doubles and a couple of trebles but none saluted ... got the 2 winners straight out but could have been a bumper day.  As you said, that's racing!

On to the Cup we go!  Wide exotic for me in the race but 'Incentivise' is going to be hard to beat

If anything stands out on the day maybe we can post them here Macca, doesn’t have to be a BB..could be multiple runners we like on the day. I managed to just grab a couple of tickets to the Cup….looking forward to sitting back with a couple of beers on a nice day.

Enjoy!

Already picked out my bets for the day but the Cup seems more straightforward with a number of horses that could be ruled out from getting into the finish

But who knows?  A lightweight bolter might get up!  I'll definitely be including Great House & Floating Artist in my exotic bets

Noticed that 'Water Bomber' has firmed into 5.50 from 8.50 (Maribyrnong Plate R1 No.10)

On debut and trained by Mick Price ... might end up starting favourite

Reckon 'Exelman' (R3) and 'Pandemic' (JMac R10) could both run well

Not one to bet on names but Race two (6) Team captain into Race 3 (9) Address Melbourne sound like an Omen to me. Maybe all up on Magic Max in Race 6. And i have left out Best Of Days in race 4

Ha ha nice one. I was on team captain. If I had seen this earlier I would have done this as a multi.

Verry Elleegant went into a F4 last minute ... salutes and a reasonable percentage of a F4 as a result.  Happy Days!!

Couldn't believe how far it drifted in the betting, all things considered (especially with J-Mac on board)

A great win by the mighty mare ... 10 x G1's now

Well done. I looked at it, but went grand promenade instead. Thems the breaks.

Been a lean time of late Gorg but more than made up for it with that collect!

Too good a horse to ignore especially when it drifted to 22-1 (and I very nearly ignored it)

The classiest horse with by far the best previous form ended up winning the race ... won't be getting tired of watching that replay in a hurry!

Red & Blue colours with a jockey named James McDonald on board.  Who knew?

Hopefully my little bit of luck rubs off here!!

Good work Macca, awesome win by a wonderful racehorse. Just got home from Flem…warm one out there.
I placed a bet a couple of months ago on Verry Elleegant to win 3 Group 1s this spring at $67. Any chance they can run her in one more G1 this spring to get to 3 wins lol. Ended up throwing a little saver on her at $22…main bet was Spanish Mission each way. Did ok out of the Cup but no luck in the previous races.

Doubt they'd run VE in the McKinnon Stakes DZ but if they did, it would probably win!

The Kingston Town Classic at Ascot?  haha

She might end up with quite a CV though ... the 6yo Mare will have another 3 x Autumn's & 2 x Spring's before it becomes a 9 year old.

Incentivise is only a 5yo so we'll see that horse for at least a few more years as well

And Zaaki is a 7yo with a bit left in the tank.  Both Incentivise & Zaaki are geldings so they'll be racing on you'd imagine

Facing the breeze along the river side told in the end for Incentivise.  Along with the 2 miles & 57kgs.  In the Caulfield Cup it had cover.  Brave effort nonetheless

But Verry Elleegant is the Champion!

Yeah I’d say spell for sure now. Had my chance in the Turnbull and Cox with VE…wasn’t a bad bet I thought as a long range one.  Was just looking at the finishing order and it showed the lack of quality outside the top 3 really. It pays 160k down to 12th and Miami Bound (12th) finished 22.45 lengths off VE. She’s Ideel 10th and 19 lengths behind. Still, I wouldn’t complain picking up 160k, covers the bills for at least 4 years.

Very true with regards to the strength of the field ... a throw-back to days gone-by before the flood of overseas entrants

And with the (now) stringent testing for overseas horses, we could expect more of the same

But I found the race to be a lot easier to decipher with regards to form.  The top 4 in the weights stood out as the best runners whilst the rest (apart from Floating Artist) were making up the numbers (as it turned out) 5th place was 10 lengths off the winner!

Not forgetting that Chris Waller & J-Mac have won their first Melbourne Cup

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.
