Geelong Cup on Wednesday and it looks a good betting race too ... the locals (or newly acquired locals ?) have real claims as do the overseas contingent.

If chancing your arm on the exotics a mix of locals & newly arrived horses is probably the go.  The 1, 3 & 6 are all having their first start in the country and all 3 have decent overseas form for this sort of race.

Geelong Cup 2400m $350k Group 3

Goodness me Macca, Withhold beat home 33 runners two starts ago and that run was in October last year. A field of 34 in a flat race? It’s common for the steeples, can’t say i have ever seen a field of that size on the flat.

Withhold is 33rd in the ballot for the Melbourne Cup and $15 to win it.

There seems to be quite a few of these types of huge fields mainly at Newmarket or Royal Ascot in contrast to a lot of their Group 1's that often only have small fields.  I suppose that is just how they do it over there.

The topweight 'Finche' is lightly raced but has raced and performed well at Group level or listed races in all but it's first start.  All at around about the Geelong Cup distance.  I am not tipping it or any other horse to win outright however as the exotics is my caper with these sorts of races.

I've narrowed it down to 5 winning chances and about a total of 7 or 8 that could get into the finish.  It's a good betting race DZ if one can figure out the form ?

If my NFL tips are anything to go by, I'll be expecting them in a few hours.

Ha!  Midterm is a real chance ... I have got it included

Meh. Not my day today.

It was a very good win by Runaway in the Geelong Cup,  all the same.  Can't say I had it amongst my chances but not to worry.

Runaway will have to rely on a hefty weight penalty to get into the Melbourne Cup now.  The race should probably make a horse exempt for the Cup in my opinion.  Here's the race ...

Best Bet

G’day Macca.

There’s a strong chance the horse will be scratched tomorrow. They will go like last week’s pay in this 955m dash and being drawn in the middle might present some difficulties in terms of where to settle the horse. Not an ideal first-up race. Too much pressure I believe.

‘El’ has also accepted at Sale in the last race on Sunday. This presents a better first-up assignment, less pressure and a bigger track. Prize money is obviously much better tomorrow night but the aim is to have him firing for the whole campaign.

Edit: They weren’t expecting to make the Moonee Valley field with the low rating but when they did it would’ve generated some strong discussion for the best and most logical option.

I will look out for it on Sunday DZ ... as well as that race the $200k Sale Cup looks an interesting race with DK Weir having a couple of runners including 'Plein Ceil' which would have to be a decent show.

In other news 'Latrobe' is out of the Melbourne Cup and will instead run in the $2Million McKinnon Stakes on the last day of the 4 day Carnival.  Decent prizemoney for a alternate race hey?  Would Winx run in the McKinnon?  Anyway,  read more at ... RacingPost.com

Ciao guys, can somebody post a link to the fields for best bets....im having a lot of trouble connecting to the net this week. Ciao.

Can’t see the $1.40 lasting too long on the tote for Winx.

I dont think its a good idea to have Best bets in the same race BM? Thoughts? Its not a rivalry thing as I see it. Or perhaps you didnt see other peoples bets. Good pick by the way. :)

Winx just seems to be getting better ... didn't get out of 3rd gear.  Bowman gave the horse the perfect ride and the horse was not extended.

However,  2 lengths to Benbatl,  5 lengths to Humidor and 8 lengths the Avilius.  I reckon they just keep racing the mighty mare ... certainly the Autumn carnival but why not another Spring campaign including another Cox Plate?

4 Cox Plates. Dont think that will be beaten for a while. She went around the outside too, so ran further than the others who were all on the inside as well. We are all blessed to witness such greatness.

Why not indeed Macca. Im sure they havent ruled it out.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.
