And well done with 'Sprightly Lass'  @binman

Needed a win after so many misses ... Osborne Bulls will give us 2 from 4 if it salutes.

I missed Ossies race, but it looks like it just went down. A lot of good horses beaten yesterday (again). Well done to BM for getting the only winner for our picks yesterday. Also well done on the Trifecta, good to see everyone getting a win. Saved my day.

I did note in Dan Zephyrs race today, its the only race all day at Ballarat that DK Weir doesnt have a horse in~!

Weir has 13 running in 8 races.

As you and others are no doubt aware Wadda,  I like my trifectas so was very happy with the return yesterday.  The more the merrier I say and I like the idea of having multiple chances to win.  The combined expertise works for me.

There's a decent Group 2 sprint race at Doomben next Saturday that I've identified but I'm happy to go with another race if we want to continue the exercise.

Sha Tin is my personal target next Sunday with 3 big Group 1 races (1200m,  1600m & 2000m)  A number of the World's best horses are running around so that gets my attention.

If we go again do we keep the same tipping order after our success yesterday?  @Demon77 acting as 'The Skip' to finish off the bet worked.  There's a nickname in the making!

Lol, ‘ The Skip’. I’m easy fellas, we can keep the same order until we fail ( we won’t though):laugh:or happy to go with majority.

Yes, I have been thinking for a while to change my name on DL. Suggestions are welcome. Teddy was the nickname growing up.

The Skip works and if you keep coming through with the goods (Showtime) it will be an apt nickname.   I've got the easy bit going 2nd ... First & Third choices are tricky with regards to possibly taking a chance on a winner.

I'll have an interest bet with the Zephyr race too ... time to study up.  Maybe a First4 so I can include the Dan?  2-4-6-6?

Ha ‘Showtime’ is good.

Dan has won at 1000m before, I still haven’t heard from my mate with some mail.

Personally I’m unsure with the drop back in distance. For now, i have something little each way on him. I’ll study the race a little closer to the jump and will do a small first 4 or tri also.

D77 has chimed in with some good picks from time to time.......how about, "Efficient" :)

Or 'Showtime' ha ha ... the horse ended up landing out first combined trifecta and we may look back in a few years (after cleaning out all the betting agencies!) as a reminder of where it all started.  'Ted' works of course.

Nicknames are normally bestowed upon so we'll no doubt come up with something ... yours (Wadda) has just stuck hasn't it?

The Zephyr race is a tricky one by the way ... a small field but trying to figure it out is not easy.

I think Melbourne had a good win one weekend and i was singing the song with gusto after the game, so i just changed my screenname when i got home.....

Not bad Skip, not bad.... :)

Whats our strike rate looking like now Macca? Do we include the trifectas somehow??

They ran a track record (01:20.33) in yesterday's All Aged Stakes and that might mean that Trapeze Artist's rating could go up a point or 2.  If that happened the horse would become the 3rd highest rated horse in the World (according to the Rankings)

I hope they don't retire the horse to stud but I'm not holding my breath on that one.

Here's a replay of the Group 1 All Aged Stakes ...

Thanks for posting Macca.

I heard after the race Trapeze Artist might head to the ‘The Everest’. Anyone hear something similar?

Well,  the trifecta collect has got to be worth more than 1 win you'd reckon Wadda ... here they are in separate formations ...

Best Bet Strike Rate

44: 20 - 9 - 2

Trifecta Strike Rate

1: 1 - 0

Australian Group and Listed Races

The separate formations looks ok to me. They are basically separate bets i guess. I nearly went Trapeze Artist as my BB too. Bum.

Watts 31 placings from 44 starts expressed as a %?

70.45% Wadda. You’d be happy if your racehorse had a percentage like that.

Watch out corporates......were coming....

The Zephyr was never in the race. They were too nippy for him today.

I’ve asked my mate why the drop back in distance but he hasn’t got back to me yet. I’m curious to see why trainers do that sometimes.

Fellas, I’m really keen now on a name change.

Showtime? Showtime Ted?  The Showtime Skip?

I like it too, will run with it. When I joined this thread back in the spring it was on the back of Dan somewhat.

I've only heard that we may well find out some time this week (whether the horse races again)  The connections obviously can't do both (race on or retire to stud) but one of the owners was talking about another season (Spring & Autumn) and then Royal Ascot.

But he said it as if it was an option only ... the other option is to earn up to $40Million in stud fees.  Money talks and we've seen what often happens previously.

The Everest must be tempting though ... worth about $7.8Million to the winner next Spring.  And there's obviously a lot of high stakes Group 1's from 1200m up to a 1600m (it would get the mile you'd reckon) both here and at Sha Tin,  Japan & Europe.

Here's the other Group 1 from yesterday - The Champagne Stakes ...

So that me done for Autumn fellas. Me and my betting partner had a pretty good day on Saturday, particularly in Sydney where i was fortunate to get the pattern right (on the speed, near the fence).

In addition to my best bet (tough win by a horse that is a winner - good odds) my best value bet, Higher Ground saluted - just, the caller called it the other way around, nice surprise.  Ironically also got the next in a close photo with the only horse that defied the pattern to win running on in Moss Trip. Very good win and a horse to follow.

But the punters lament is it could have been a huge day with a touch more luck. We had six seconds! That included a 20-1 pop in Adelaide (didn't have it each way). And i thought Guerrier in Sydney was going to win, but just ran out of gas (and unfortunately just out of the placings as i had it each way).

I was also a bit annoyed not to get something from the Le Romain trapeze Artist quinella, which paid a remarkable 10.80. Crazy.  Thye were the two horse i really liked. Should have boxed up a quinela in addition to the box trifecta i took (or even better instead of it). And even more stupidly did not take the Demonland trif! Also annoyed weir elected to run Brave smash. Clearly does not like firm tracks.

Good luck on the punt fellas. To keep an interest i'll do the form for the elected DL weekly trifecta race, post it on this thread and even put a little money on it!

Enjoy your break bm ... one of us will alert you on the trifecta race once we decide which race it is.  Picking a decent trifecta race is half the battle - my preference is the Group 1 or Group 2 WFA or SW fields but that's just me.

Thanks for your ongoing contribution too ... we need all the expertise possible!

The format will probably be the same (3 - 5 - 5) and the tipping order may well be the same considering we won first time up.  But that may change going forward.

It was ...

  • W/2/3 ... Wadda
  • W/2/3 ... Macca
  • W/2/3 ... binman
  • 2/3 ........ Dee Zephyr
  • 2/3 ........ Dee Zephyr

There was a time during the current Melbourne cycle that goes back to before the premiership when the club was the toughest to beat in the fourth quarter. The Demons were not only hard to beat at any time but it was virtually impossible to get the better them when scores were close at three quarter time. It was only three or four years ago but they were fit, strong and resilient in body and mind. Sadly, those days are over. This has been the case since the club fell off its pedestal about 12 months ago after it beat Geelong and then lost to Carlton. In both instances, Melbourne put together strong, stirring final quarters, one that resulted in victory, the other, in defeat. Since then, the drop off has been dramatic to the point where it can neither pull off victory in close matches, nor can it even go down in defeat  gallantly.

  • CASEY: Footscray

At twenty-four minutes into the third term of the game between the Casey Demons and Footscray VFL at Whitten Oval, the visitors were coasting. They were winning all over the ground, had the ascendancy in the ruck battles and held a 26 point lead on a day perfect for football. What could go wrong? Everything. The Bulldogs moved into overdrive in the last five minutes of the term and booted three straight goals to reduce the margin to a highly retrievable eight points at the last break. Bouyed by that effort, their confidence was on a high level during the interval and they ran all over the despondent Demons and kicked another five goals to lead by a comfortable margin of four goals deep into the final term before Paddy Cross kicked a couple of too late goals for a despondent Casey. A testament to their lack of pressure in the latter stages of the game was the fact that Footscray’s last ten scoring shots were nine goals and one rushed behind. Things might have been different for the Demons who went into the game after last week’s bye with 12 AFL listed players. Blake Howes was held over for the AFL game but two others, Jack Billings and Taj Woewodin (not officially listed as injured) were also missing and they could have been handy at the end. Another mystery of the current VFL system.

The Demons head back out on the road in Round 10 when they travel to Queensland to take on the reigning Premiers and the top of the table Lions who look very formidable. Can the Dees cause a massive upset? Who comes in and who goes out?

Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.
