Hong Kong provides some great racing at this time of the year and one of the most memorable and thrilling finishes I have ever seen happened back in December of 2000.

Great memories of a great horse D77 ... around that time a few of us ventured to Moonee Valley to see a couple of champs in action.

Epic Macca!

Northerly looked gone before the bend as Sunline found another gear and what a cracking run by the then 3yr old Viscount....then the protest drama.

Cheers for the memories mate!

Wow what races they were. Hadnt seen the Fairy King Prawn race before, that was epic. The mare of the world was right. We must all be around the same vintage i guess. Excellent history lessons guys.

Only 9 running in the AJ Scahill Stakes but it's not a bad field and it could be a decent betting race as there are a number of chances.

The Weir horse (Ulmann) may well start favourite and there's been a switch of jockeys for State Solicitor.   Others horses such as Profit Street,  Variation & Silverstream could all figure in the finish too.

Link - AJ Scahill Stakes (Ascot) ... 1400m WFA $250,000 Group 3 (race time should be about 7.50pm AEDT)

The Group 2 Villiers Stakes at Randwick on Saturday might be worth a look as well.

DemonlANd Zephyr has accepted for race 7 Caulfield tomorrow.

Finally received some luck with the barriers drawing 1. Mitchell Aitken has been booked for the ride, the horse comes in at 55kg but after the claim will carry 52kg.

Its been over a year since he has saluted, hopefully a bit of luck comes his way.

Will update further later tonight or tomorrow to see how the Zephyr is travelling.

Another run for the Zephyr .... fantastic news.... excuse the pun but I hope the jockey can "boot him home" for all of us !

Ok thanks D77. Standing by for the late mail.

Hi Wadda, whilst we wait for the latest my mate thinks he's a decent chance. Although one of his best wins came at this track his overall record at Caulfield is pretty average to say the least so that's a concern.

Dan should return to his usual racing pattern today of being on pace after the good draw.

Good each way odds at the moment but when a horse hasn't won for a long time it's hard to back it with any confidence.

Im sure your "mate" is confident, and probably not without reason......however, it can be a demon (intentional pun) of a track and really seems to suit some horses although Ive never really known why. If hes had a good win there however, that is a good thing. All his other runs may have had various other factors against him. 11/1 is about right i guess, maybe slightly short. Its a good 4, so should suit. Im not totally sold on the jockey, but i really wouldnt know.

I don't know much about this hockey apart from the fact the horse will carry 52kg after the claim. Some of the connections seem happy that Rhys McLeod isn't taking the ride though.

The AJ Scahill Stakes (race 7 Ascot, 8.10pm) is down to 8 runners with the scratching of Variation so I'll be looking for a greater percentage in the Tri & F4.

Settled on 2 horses to win ... Silverstream and for a bit of value,  Zuccheros.  However, any of the other 6 horses can feature so it's then just a matter of which ones to leave out!

Another value runner Django ran 2nd to Zuccheros over the 1400m last start and is lightly raced this campaign.  Both value runners are up in the weights though.

Yes, i was just saying its an unknown, but the weight advantage is great. There are actually some good races on today at Caulfield. I like Crystal Dreamer in the race after Dans........have put both in my quaddie!

I also had a little go at R2 Good Therapy into R6 My Psychiatrist .....couldnt resist.

I really like Silverstream also. Guess you are right, many good runners in this race. Boxed a few up for a trifecta....for the rest ill concentrate on Caulfield and see how we go.

In order for the Tri or F4 to pay a half decent dividend in the race,  a couple/few roughies need to feature in the finish - that's what I'm banking on.  At this time of the year I usually just restrict myself to the one race to bet on - had a look at Villiers Stakes at Randwick but couldn't find a combo that satisfied.

Anyway, good luck at Caulfield today Wadda and good luck with the Zephyr @Demon77

No pre race update so far on the Zephyr, trainer might be getting a bit lazy.

Let's hope for an overdue victory.:)

Not a bad run setting the pace, found a few better today the Zephyr, almost held 3rd.

Top run. There is no doubt hes a good horse. i thought they would quinella for sure with 100m to go, very unlucky not to run a place.

On a lighter note, ive got the first 3 legs of the quaddie with a 4 dollar bet for 33%...ha. only 1 pick in the last the fav. no 13 of course...

Good work Wadda on the quaddie with only a 4 dollar investment and a one out in the last leg.

A win is a win mate, I can't remember the last time I got close to winning a quaddie.

:)

Hi D77, thank you indeed, there was a protest of course on the last race. The winner shifted across on the 2nd horse and clearly interfered, and the margin was half a neck. However another horse seemed to push the winner across....so maybe that was why it was dismissed. i was sure being horse 13 it was going to be upheld. But yes i will take it indeed and i wouldnt have got it if i hadnt been following Dan because i dont normally bother with Saturdays outside the main seasons.......so Dans beena winner to me! Cheers

Got a good percentage of the trifecta but just missed the first 4 ... it's always nice to turn a very small outlay into a decent 3 figures.

Could have been a good 4 figures but thems the breaks.  Didn't have Mr Utopia - ugh!

These small fields can still yield good dividends ... the form from that Zuccheros race held up (2nd & 3rd in that race ran 2nd & 3rd in this race)

I saw that Crystal Dreamer won again for you @Wadda We Sing ... any luck with your parlays?

As for next week at Ascot (yep, their carnival is still going) the CB Cox Stakes (2100m) is being run ... it's a Group 2 WFA race worth $250,000 and the event is often used as a run-in to the Perth Cup (Jan 1)

If I get a chance I'll post up the field with barriers later in the week.

There's also a big Group 1 race on next Sunday from Japan (the 'Arima Kinen') ... a top field should be assembled as the race is worth approximately $6miilion.  The free-to-air racing channel is probably covering the race.

Well i got the Quaddie with a 4 dollar investment.....so ill take their money.......but strange i got that, but i still managed to screw up the parlays! Crystal Dreamer is a beauty. There was an old surf flick called Crystal Voyager and had some early Pink Floyd music, i used to love it, had the soundtrack for years......think thats why i picked it originally or why it caught my eye....haha.

Bad luck on that FF....very very close.

Has Bowman got a ride in that Japan race?

  • GAMEDAY: Hawthorn

It’s game day and the Demons are chasing a fourth straight win as we take on the high flying Hawks at the G. After decades of being tormented by the Hawks the Dees will be keen to extend their 7 year dominance over Hawthorn.

  • NON-MFC: Round 09

Round 9 kicks off out west with the Dockers hosting a Collingwood side resting several stars. Fremantle need to make a statement on their home deck after some disappointing form on the road, while the Magpies will be keen to maintain their Top 2 position. Friday night sees a must-win clash between two sides desperate to stay in touch with the eight. St Kilda have shown glimpses while Carlton are clinging to relevance after a flat start to the season. Saturday’s twilight game at Marvel pits the Bombers against a struggling Sydney outfit. Essendon can’t afford another close match against a lower-ranked side, while the Swans risk sliding down the ladder even further. Up in Darwin, the fourth-placed Suns will look to extend their stay in the top four. The Bulldogs have hit their stride with three big wins on the trot and will be very keen to consolidate on their momentum. The always fiery Showdown looms as pivotal for both clubs. Adelaide are eyeing a spot in the Top 4 with a win, while Port Adelaide’s season could slip away if they drop another game and fall further behind the pack. Sunday begins with a yawn fest between Richmond and West Coast. The Tigers need to bank the points to stay clear of the bottom two, while the Eagles are still chasing their first win of the year. The Giants face one of the league’s toughest road trips as they travel to GMHBA Stadium to face the Cats. With GWS at risk of a third straight loss, Geelong will be eager to consolidate their position inside the eight and start their climb up the ladder. The round wraps up with the top-of-the-table Lions heading to Ninja Stadium to take on the second-last Roos. The Lions should easily take care of the struggling Roos who might be powerless against the best in the comp. Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • PREVIEW: Hawthorn

Melbourne and Hawthorn who face off against each other this week have more in common than having once almost merged and about to wear a blue jumper with a red v triangle and an embroidered picture of a bird on the front. They also share the MCG as their main home ground, their supporters are associated with the leafy suburbs of Melbourne and in recent times, James Frawley graced the colours of both teams. Even more recently, both have bounced back from disastrous five game losing streaks to start off a season. Of course, the Hawks turned their bounce into a successful leap from the bottom of the ladder into a finals appearance, making it to the semifinals in 2024 and this year, they’re riding high in third place on the AFL table. The Demons are just three games into their 2025 bounce back, and are yet to climb their way out of the bottom four although they are sitting a game and percentage out of the top eight. However, with the current sportsbet odds of $3.90 to win this week’s encounter, it seems a forlorn hope that their upward progression will continue much longer.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.
