Boundary throw-in balls-up

Featured Replies

If the ball goes outside the circle at a centre bounce, the umpires call it back and throw it up again so one side isn't advantaged.

Why not the same for boundary throw-ins?

That half-arsed throw-in yesterday cost us a goal. It should have been called back.

What if it had happened late in the game of a tight final?

You are talking common sense and the AFL, Grape. That is an oxymoron.

i have seen them call it back for a re-throw, can only assume in this case it didn't reach the (umpire's) threshold whatever that is

i thought it should have been recalled, but then i would

yes I saw that.

No where near the rucks but straight into the arms of a  Saints rover for a goal.

There was also a mark by Riewoldt at least 1 metre over the boundary as well an another paid to the saints.

These maggots are constantly messing up my enjoyment of the game.

Also a half volley to Roo called a mark, then tackled then paid 50 as the player tackling thought rightfully that it was a play on.(in 1st Quarter)

Also they made a point of f*&king Jack Watts all day .

They need bashing.

I've seen haymakers thrown that went further than that throw in. They would've been too embarrassed to bring it back after a goal.

And that ump who paid the half volley mark to Roo should take up the free test offer by OPSM.

I think the rule should be that no player can take possession of the ball from a boundary throw-in. This stops dreadful throw-ins from resulting in clean possessions.

As part of the effort to trim the runtime of the regular podcast, we’ve been looking at which segments could be reshaped without losing what makes them valuable. One segment that naturally came into focus was Binman’s Stats Files. Not because it isn’t important; quite the opposite. It’s become such a substantial and much-loved part of the show that it deserves a little room to breathe.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.
