Are foootballers coming back into fashion?

Featured Replies

are natural footballers back in vogue, or is it a mirage I see?

lets hope the game slows a bit, & legs tire, so we see more tall timber deep forward, & some specialist position players return the game to what it was, "once upon a time" ?

No, we will see footy like we did when the average rotations were around 90. So just prior to 2010.

Thought they might starting recruiting ballerinas but the last one was a lying drug cheat.

Think I will begin to enjoy footy more again .

Quoi déjà

I reckon it's going to be a case of you're either aerobically out of this world or you have to play multiple positions to get a game, mids are going to have to rest forward, rucks are going to have to rest forward, i think games in general are going to be alot more contested, going to see the gap between the best and worst widen a bit more, Carltons kids will not be able to match the hawks fitness and that's going to be highlighted.

What makes up a natural footballer? Can you define one?

As a kid I was a lousy footballer. I was quick, had reasonable hands and could kick straight but was invariably where the ball wasn't. A friend of mine, who ended up playing a good standard of footy, had two dodgy knees from about 12 years of age. He was so very slow, not overly tall, was a lousy trainer and heartily embraced the party life from around grade ten. But he was nearly always where the footy was. As I was pointlessly running around he would hobble/jog a few metres, catch the ball, kick a perfectly weighted ball to a running team mate and then waddle back to position. Repeat 20-25 times a match. He was a natural footballer

Brett Lovett was, for me, a great example of a natural footballer. He played on many blokes who were taller, faster and seemingly more talented but he was rarely beaten. Jarred Rivers was another who was a footballer first and foremost

It is easier to define who isn't a natural footballer than who is. Sam Frost is an athlete who plays footy, same for Watts. They don't have that inate footy knowledge, that stuff that just can't be taught

On the other end of the scale are the Gary Abletts (both), Pendlebury's, Carey's etc who are all obviously freakishly good footballers but for some reason that I can't actually articulate fall outside the natural footballer definition.

Who of the current list do you think are natural footballers? After the draft a friend emailed and said "geez that fat, ranga looks like a footballer doesn't he?" I hope he is

I would define it more as a player with the traditional skills of run, toughness, insight to imagine where his teammate/s is/are, the disposal skills by foot to be able to create things with some flair, composure under physical heat, & a touch of larakinism (dare to do), a bit of mean streak,

David Neitz, the Ox, Whelan, TJohnson, Jnr Mac, Lyon, Jakovitch, Farmer, players who have player=d the game since they were kids & have the Intuitive reactions for the game. rather than moreso relying on some freak physical trait of just run or just aerobics.
