AFLCA names Bernie Vince in its AA side.

In my opinion this award holds more weight than the official All Australian side.

This award is chosen by the judges that matter the most- the coaches.

The offical All Australian is picked by peanuts like Mark Evans and Luke Darcy

Well, if you read the article, it's only tangentially so.

They take into account the AFLCA player of the year votes, and select players based on the players with the most votes in each positional role. Who decides which players fit in each role is never actually addressed.

Sure, it's a nice gesture, but to say it's chosen by the coaches is misleading at best.

Here's the article.

To me that looks like a hellishly strong side. I might have had different small defenders in there, but that's about it and I admit to a certain bias.

Too bad we’ll never see this or any other “best-of-the-best” side play for real.

Maybe that's how they should do the AA side, using current coaches to determine the side rather than outsiders.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.
