I know this isn't Melbourne Demons related specifically but I found this fascinating. I usually find Iron Mike an absolute muppet but this was very well done. I wonder if they will ever do a doco. on the events from 2009 until the end of 2013 at the MFC? I think that would be a brilliant documentary.

It just does go to show that culture does matter. And it's not just the culture among the players. How a club functions and what it's expectations and values are from top to bottom are important.

I thought Schwab might have made an appearance in this as his was a Richmond family for many years. Unfortunately, and I have said this before, he tried to become our Graham Richmond and bought the club down.

Watching this Graeme Richmond was no mentor. His sledgehammer tactics could only be used in the old zone days.

His tactics worked in the old days, yes. I think how CS tried to copy him was with his micromanagement. He wanted his finger in every pie and when things weren't going exactly to plan the first instinct was the one he got from Richmond: sack the coach.

I would recommend that they watch this and tell me how decisions made by admin don't effect the performance on the field. As most in the doco said, botched recruiting, a constant turnover of coaches and players in the name of 'ruthlessness', an unwillingness to spend money on facilities or certain players and an obsession with their 'traditions' were key reasons for a 30 year period of darkness. There were key moments that calcified this culture (the recruiting wars with Collingwood, sacking Tony Jewell, getting John Pitura, sacking Paul Sproule).

Correct CBF. Bad decisions kill a club when they are constantly happening.

186 was all about him, but were we ever able to ask any questions, after our board had reinstated him??....No.

This is why i stopped going to games after round 2. You have to make a stand.

I think I probably prefer Martin Flannagan pieces which have reflected alot of the circumstances in real time rather than a retrospective.

Also interesting to note that this concentrates on the culture of the bad and there is no examination of the culture of the good that led to the five flags maybe that is what should be examined by us I recko we can alll recognise the demise how do we get the success?????

They did for a bit but I guess that wouldn't make as good TV.

I think the doco on the Bailey, Schwab, Connolly fiasco will be a decade away. I would say the last two in that list of three are licking their wounds and probably still getting over how horribly wrong they actually were.

I bet he is trying to find a buyer for a warehouse somewhere that is currently overstocked with blazers. That would take up a lot of your time.

To be honest, I think the stuff with Norm Smith and Checker Hughes has been done to death.

The current stuff would be intriguing. I would love to see Bailey tell things as they really were. He wanted to tip the bucket at the presser but didn't. It would be interesting to see how Cuddles and Schwab try to justify the unjustifiable.
