The Need For Quality Mids

Featured Replies

Look we all know we need quality mids to compliment Toumpas Viney Nathan Jones and the like. There have been a lot of names thrown up but there are only one or two that are top class that we can go for and they are unlikely.

It's my opinion that we should look to mature age state recruits with decent skills unlike Magner who I rate but just doesn't do enough with the ball.

I watched the Williamstown V Northern Blues game today and a player that is a solid build and actually used the ball well was Brent Prismall.

I know he has been delisted but his knee problems seem to be behind him and he actually uses the ball very well.

Just a suggestion obviously but I would like to know some other decent mature players that anyone can think of (outside the afl) who could come onto our list and help us immediately. Ala Sam Dwyer from Collingwood

We have Watts, pick 2 and plenty of cash. I wish trades were like that in American sport, clubs can dictate the destination of traded players. We know Swallow wants to come home, North have some great young mids but would money be enough of a reason to come across.....probably not.

Isn't Swallow from WA?

Swallow is from WA and if he is going anywhere it would be to North. Unless he wants to go to WCE or Freo. I personally hope we don't trade pick 2 we do need it on a quality mid from the draft who actually has the body ready for AFL. Trades can be from players and late first round/early second round picks.

Pick 2 has to go to Aish.. Kids a freak!

My bad, I thought I read somewhere he was from Melbourne. It may have been wants to be closer to his brother and I put 2 and 2 together.

Lets delist Rodan and pick up Prismall.

Lets delist Rodan and pick up Prismall.

Have you watched any Williamstown games this season? or just commenting to be a smart ass?

FWIW Rodan was dominant early today until doing his knee

If the right deal presented itself I would trade pick 2. I say that because a deal would obviously be for a mid and every year has mids coming through. We have Hogan in the bank. We may get a pick for Watts that we could on trade which would allow us to keep pick 2. We may get a priority.

As for Swallow all I can add would be offer him big dollars. It's getting harder to get to your club of choice.

So Rodan hurt his knee, your making it hard not to be a smart ass DT.

Agree if we could land Swallow for pick 2 that would be a massive bonus.

Im not saying he has been a good pick up I am just saying that Prismall is looking very good this season and appears to be over his injuries. Comparing him to Rodan is silly as Rodan is 2 1/2 years older than Prismall.

id rather deal watts and pick 20 for swallow and get aish with 2

That would be a good trade but no way would they take pick 20. Watts has very little currency due to his years of indifferent form.

There had around 5 knee operations between them mate.

Yeah I know they have but Prismall has not been hampered in any way this year .. anyway he was just a guide my main point was to see if there were players in the state leagues who we could look at

That would be great but Gold Coast would want pick 2 for any deal involving Swallow. Watts really isn't going to net us much on the trade table.

whats swallow done to be worth pick 2?

Massive potenial even bigger then Watts who i think is very overated and soft.

It's one of those things, Watts whilst showing glimpses has been disappointing. If he asks to be traded to Carlton we will be asking for their first pick. That would be based more on potential. If that was to occur it could be used as part of a deal for Swallow. I'm happy to trade pick 2, may not be for Swallow, depends on the whole deal. I think we should throw massive money at a 22-24 year old mid. Sydney has plenty on the books plus Mitchell and Jack2 coming through. Yes I know it would be near impossible to prize one away but that's why we load up the offer. Mitch is our Buddy/Cloke and his contract is at least half over(did he sign for 3 or 4?) offer Kieren Jack 4 years at 750k a year. Most likely never happen but we should be in a position to do something similar to that because as I keep asking, which players are draining our cap. Lets be bold, in a few years we will have to be conservative with our cap but at the moment lets target some mids and front load them.

But Juddy said on the pre-game tonight that Dale Thomas and Watts are both "good players".

How does Carlton satisfy both us and the Pies?

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.
