Amazing to see Melbourne beating the likes of Ablett, Bartel, Kelly and Johnson. I still maintain our team was pretty good back then.

Watching the 2010 highlights was kind of bittersweet. It showed what we could have been had we been developed properly. There was a verve and spunk in our play when we were 'on'.Now, it seems that any spirit has been beaten out of the boys. Very sad.

It should be mentioned though that those videos didn't show some of the pantsings we received from 2008 to 2011.

I will say this again about the Daniher era... Anyone who praises the debacle post 2007 and says that ND's era was an unmitigated disaster is a muppet. Frustrating at times but I will say it was actually nice to look forward to going to the footy instead of walking away feeling numb and embarrassed to be a Demon.

2010. So up and down but the players did play with freedom. We needed to fine tune our defense but we had what I thought was something to work with. We would lose to our 2010 side by 100 plus. Also Brad Green was such a good player and that young bloke in the number 4 seemed to show a bit up forward. What happened to him?

Now now Angry, don't be too harsh on the late Denis Jones. Even he had the jump, ever so slightly, on Neeld.

Our last Senior Premiership at any level. I'll never forget Giles off the ground handball to Bailey for the winning goal. Nor having to scale the metal fence on the boundary without slipping off on a dewy night feeling a sense of surprise, shock but also great elation! From memory I think they call it...WINNING!

It's Enough to make one sick. Look at Trengove taking huge marks, Watts outstanding, Stef Martin perhaps best on ground,Moloney terrific, Gysberts ok. So many of the present players performing as they did then, but can't now. Just watch it and realize we have some very good players, despite what the coach has done to the list. Watch the gameplan.

They looked so confident against Essendon and wanted to take the play on! No wonder so many of us were getting ahead of ourselves, there was so much to look forward to. I was there that night with three mates who follow the bombers and I remember leaving and they were all talking about how we are surely to become the next AFL powerhouse!

Was so exciting with goal hungry forwards like Green and Jurrah (I mean goal hungry in a good way and how you want your pocket/flankers to be) we had an awesome up and coming midfield with Gys absolutely starring that night, Moloney smashing through walls and what about Trenners hanger! Where did that come from? WHERE DID THAT GO????

Thanks for the posting of these videos, reminds me why I have such a sick obsession with this club

I don't think people realise just how big of a loss Jurrah has been. Personal issues aside, he needed to work on his fitness and defensive side of his game bit but I think that (like many things) was overplayed by Neeld.

EDIT: What I notice from the Essendon game in 2011 is that a lot of what Melbourne does is one first option. No one is trying to do too much and there often is a teammate nearby in a good position and and on the move.

I remember being out collecting firewood in 1993 and listening to the radio to the Dees thrash the tigers by 20 goals.

Still sticks in my mind as I remember the battle between the flashy gun full forward Allen Jakovich and my fav player at the time ruck rover Andy Lovell for the most goals of the day. All day they went goal for goal and finished with 8 apiece.

Would love to find footage of that one.

I remember the game very well. In 1958 it rained on the morning of thei GF and we lost to a very untalented side. Again in 1960 we were by far the best side in the comp.

In 1960 I had a Sat morning job cleaning up in a city milk bar. Imagine my concern when in late morning it rained. Indeed there was a huge thunderstorm. "this will let the bastards back into it I thought". As it turned out it was wonderful, delicious! I don't think the Pies scored until the second quarter. They kicked their 2nd goal in the last quarter. Very sweet revenge.

You are dead right Colin. It was a great run. From 1987 until 2006 we played finals 13 times. Without checking I think 2 grand finals

And 5 prelims. I get bloody irritated with those who say tlhe club has been hopeless for 50 years.

The famous night when we got the label the future powerhouse team. Beating the undefeated Brisbane with the two key forwards Fevola and Brown. The two great hope kids Scully Trengrove starring that night. Such hope, What a long time ago round 5 2010 feels like.

Highlights for me were just about every game of the 2004 season watching Scott Thompson carve it up time and time again in the midfield. Yze was always kicking goals from outrageous positions. I think big al Nicholson was still around.

one particular memory I enjoyed was a game in 2004 against Carlton where we won by over 100 points of I remember.

but other than 87 and 88 plus our side in 2000 the other year and season I loved as when we beat the saints in 2006 qualifying final after they got ahead at quarter time - grant Thomas's last game as coach. They said we won't the Victorian grand final that night finishing higher than any other Victorian side.

cam Bruce had some great seasons as well.

when you watch the daniher or northey years you realize just how shameful we are now.

bring back Nathan Carroll - sorry I jest - but Scott Thompson leaving was the first step in our decline. They changed the rules on white and turncoat jolly left.
