ok so we had done alright at the time but the bucks don't stop there WE FAIL TO DEVELOP ANYONE. Had they gone any where else there is a strong chance they would of succeeded it can no longer be just chance that we keep drafting crap guys while every club succeeds and develops stars. oh and as for hindsight.. well that just can't even be applied to the mfc any more, you know before its happened that their career is over.

Yes, [censored] does happen here and there but should not happen every year, we have had 15 first round picks since 2003, you must love s$#t! Maybe you should have a drink ("alcohol brings out the truth") but i hope you come to a realisation before it gets to that.

Do not tell me to walk away from the club that i have defended right to the bone for 20 years through thhick and thin because i have now come to terms with how much of a basket case we are. I will keep defending it but I will no longer come up with excuses when there are none. I support the club and want what is best for it and the past 6 years have led me and the rest of AFL fraternity to believe that many of the people in the club are not up for the job.

How do you know they would have developed, Maric went to Richmond they didn't keep him, nobody wanted Cook, Morton was traded but can't get a game with West Coast after a full preseason......what is a star.......Neeld is trying to develop but the "supporters" don't want to give him a chance.......the Club has made mistakes but that is history, repeat history, supporting the Club is moving on.....when BP left I take it you put your app in for Recruiter...no, why not?........Carlton have had as many in the same period...how many premierships....even the God of coaches has them at 0 and 2........oh no not another fact.......don't need to drink

Since 2001, we have had the following top 20 picks;

9, 14, 15, 3 (Sylvia), 5, 13, 15 (Dunn), 12 (Jones), 12 (Frawley), 4, 14 (Grimes), 1 (Watts), 17 (Blease), 19 (Strauss), 1, 2 (Trengove), 11, 18 (Tapscott), 12, 12 (Clark), 3, 13, 20 (Hogan, Dawes, Barry), 4 (Toumpass).

That's 24 picks. 15 players are still on the list.

Good footballers

Jones, Frawley, Grimes, Clark

OK players/players with potential

Blease, Dawes, Trengove

Too early to tell

Hogan, Toumpass, Barry

Battlers

Dunn, Tapscott, Strauss, Watts, Sylvia

I make it 4 good AFL players, 3 with potential and 3 too early to tell from 24 top 20 picks. Two of those weren't even developed by us.

and i don't want neeld gone, i want him to have his chance. it's everyone else at the club who have overstayed their welcome. the ones that creates this shocking environment where kids can not become confident men.

Hindsight.....wonderful isn't it,......most of the picks were taken where the so called footy pundits said they would, so everybody was wrong....not just the Club...we have done a reasonable job of getting players down the order up and running......there is another team full of No 1 picks that at the moment is zip and 2, yes they have performed better but still have the same points as us, using your logic must be a valid point...or our you going to pee on that as well

Hindsight or not Satyriconhome our list is crap.

In the end the responsibility stops at the top.

It is Time

I wonder if Darling would be good in our side or just useless like the rest of our blokes have been. No forwad thrives with the lack of oppurtunities our forwards have recieved this year.

Darling would have done absolutely nothing to improve our diabolically poor midfield. Well, probably not more than Clark and Dawes would be doing.

Wonderfully thought out response Old Dee, took my points and explained why and how you don't agree with them, must have taken so much of your time, to go away and just come up with a Whitlamish slogan...wow....we are in trouble.........so the nominations for the Board are you, Rangey and WYL with Caroline Wilson as Communications Officer, am I reading this right?

I think we have flogged to death the examination of each player Satyriconhome.

The simple facts are IMO that we have a very ordinary list.

The Current management over a five period have bought us to this point.

Excuses were acceptable in 2007,8,9,10,11,12

It is now 2013 and we are far worse than in 2007.

Life can deal a s--- sandwich sometimes but in the end you have to pass the batten on to someone else.

IMO that should happen very soon.

Finally I am not going away because you don't agree with me. We have different opinions but surely we are allowed to belong to the same club.

Enjoy the day improvement will start soon

When we recruited Cook, we didn't have Clark and Dawes.

Neeld, Craig and Misson aren't responsible for the last decade of recruiting blunders.

It's not that we get it wrong all the time, it's just that the other sides get it right.

There are times when you have a choice out of 5, maybe 6 players and every time we did, the other sides got it right by picking who we left.

The recruiting has been PATHETIC.

Gysberts not the clubs fault!?!?! He was the epitomy of a wasted draft pick. A real Prendergast special. 'We felt like we needed some height in our midfield' so we took a 190cm twig that has no endurance or kicking skills with pick 11. Staggering.

For me, it was more about the sameness of it all. I'm assumimg there was a strategy, but from memory, it was Blease and Strauss in the same draft, likewise Jetta & Bennell, but not a key position in sight, at least with the early picks. I stand to be corrected, but I think all the draft tipsters had us taking Talia as the next best in his particular year, but we went for another midfielder in Gysberts ( only to trade him away for next to nothing . Stating the obvious but its just a very poor return.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

There was a time during the current Melbourne cycle that goes back to before the premiership when the club was the toughest to beat in the fourth quarter. The Demons were not only hard to beat at any time but it was virtually impossible to get the better them when scores were close at three quarter time. It was only three or four years ago but they were fit, strong and resilient in body and mind. Sadly, those days are over. This has been the case since the club fell off its pedestal about 12 months ago after it beat Geelong and then lost to Carlton. In both instances, Melbourne put together strong, stirring final quarters, one that resulted in victory, the other, in defeat. Since then, the drop off has been dramatic to the point where it can neither pull off victory in close matches, nor can it even go down in defeat  gallantly.

  • CASEY: Footscray

At twenty-four minutes into the third term of the game between the Casey Demons and Footscray VFL at Whitten Oval, the visitors were coasting. They were winning all over the ground, had the ascendancy in the ruck battles and held a 26 point lead on a day perfect for football. What could go wrong? Everything. The Bulldogs moved into overdrive in the last five minutes of the term and booted three straight goals to reduce the margin to a highly retrievable eight points at the last break. Bouyed by that effort, their confidence was on a high level during the interval and they ran all over the despondent Demons and kicked another five goals to lead by a comfortable margin of four goals deep into the final term before Paddy Cross kicked a couple of too late goals for a despondent Casey. A testament to their lack of pressure in the latter stages of the game was the fact that Footscray’s last ten scoring shots were nine goals and one rushed behind. Things might have been different for the Demons who went into the game after last week’s bye with 12 AFL listed players. Blake Howes was held over for the AFL game but two others, Jack Billings and Taj Woewodin (not officially listed as injured) were also missing and they could have been handy at the end. Another mystery of the current VFL system.

The Demons head back out on the road in Round 10 when they travel to Queensland to take on the reigning Premiers and the top of the table Lions who look very formidable. Can the Dees cause a massive upset? Who comes in and who goes out?

Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.
