First time poster so hi all. Would have loved to start this on a positive note however I had a feeling a loss was on the cards today and therefor was not surprised by the score.

My main concern is looking long term. I have no doubt everyone here loves the club and wants to see it succeed however lets be honest, the long term prospects are very concerning. We have a team who plays very weak and timid, whether this be due to failures in drafting or coaching errors. The game plan appears to fail to stand up under Neeld however this is still a question which will take time to answer properly. Ultimately its about where we see the team improving, and this is the most damaging thought. The likes of Richmond, North Melbourne, Brisbane, Fremantle, Gold Coast and Greater Western Sydney are teams full of young, promising talent who play as a 'team'. These teams will only improve over the coming years and while Richmond, North Melbourne, Brisbane and Fremantle have improvement to make, its GC and GWS that will provide major headaches for the future. Coming up against these two teams in 2-3 years time will be a massive challenge considering their crop of talent.

The Melbourne Football Club have clearly failed to draft appropriately and this is why we are seeing no improvement now. Bate, Dunn, Newton, Petterd, Maric, Watts, Blease, Strauss, Gysberts, Tapscott, Cook were all considered top draft picks and have failed to live up to expectation. This does not include players drafted later each year.

I think there will be tough times for this club going forward. I love the club but I am also ashamed to now be part of it. Since 2006 the club has gone backwards in ALL aspects of the club and I truly believe we will see a decade of a failing team. I question therefor is will the club survive this for another 7 years. I think not!

The longest we should look at is week to week.

Unless we improve dramatically ,we will likely get less than 15 thousand members next year.

The whole club is on the verge of implosion (again)

There is no time for a rebuild ,we will not survive it.

We need to make a team out of the spuds and [censored] we have.

We can get rid of a few shocking kickers and bring in the kicking skills of Strauss ,Jetta ,Davey and Tom Mc.

I would train the arses off them an extra 5 hours per loss per week .

Suggest you go and look a few threads after Rd 1 2008.

We have gone backwards since then. we haven't won in Rd 1 since 2005

We are sick of the long term view. I just want 22 Jack Vineys.

If it continues would it be the worst thing if the club folded?

Yes.

No matter what, this is still our club.

I can put up with heartache, but that would be heartbreak.

Yes because I wouldn't have a team to follow and then any passion left for the game would go. I might have to leave the country.

We all agree the club cant afford to continue like this. A possible merge might be the answer and I would rather see a merge than the club folding. This is what will happen. Agreed another 7 years we wont exist.

The long term view is frightening, we simply don' have the talent at the club and we are much worse that I had ever imagined.

Our leaders just don't inspire and even if they did our other players seem incapable of following any lead, I just don't know why we seem to attract such insipid players and the only ones who seem to show any fight are those we import.

Our list is dreadful and the recruiting of the NQR VFL players has only made it worse. WTF are we some sort of retirement village?

Just because there have been a couple of mature age recruits that have done well there's no reason to think they all will. Rodan was delisted by Port who at the time were in a shambles, Geelong wouldn't give Gillies or Byrne a game and were in fact going to delist Byrne, so they saw nothing left in him. Gillies was passed over for Riv who we let go. Pederson seemed to have no hope of getting a game at North a club we fancied we would surpass.

We are in deep trouble.

I don't know what's install for our club?

Pathetic on the field which will result in low membership. We are trying to win over the kids in Casey to grow our supporter base, I can't anyone wanting to support us unless its the sympathy vote. We have a half a million dollar fine hanging over our head. Our relationship with our alignment side Casey is in a very poor state to the point Rohan Welsh was heard openly bagging Neeld's game plan. Our brand has been heavily tarnished and we are the laughing stock of the AFL.

Ffs, was heartbroken watching this and it's hard to draw any positives at all from it. The team were shite and comprehensively beaten by a team of second-raters in Port (with no disrespect meant to their players who at least went out there and fought hard for their club), and I honestly don't know where the improvement is going to come from in the short term. BUT...MFC is our club, we are Demons and always will be, today many of us lost faith in the coach and players and are much more cynical now, but merger/winding up of our club is NOT an option. Footy would not be the same without the Dees, and the AFL would be poorer for our disappearance. We are entitled to be angry and frustrated with the players, the coach and the board, but at the end of the day we will still be there at the 'G or for those of us interstate watching and hoping for a win regardless of the odds. These days will pass. But winding the club up would be a permanent solution to a temporary problem and would really be a case of the cure being worse than the ailment.

Carey suggested the players should be made to do a 10k time trial tomorrow.

The coaching staff, the President and the CEO should be made to do it as well. F...k them all.

Heard him on Triple M during the car ride home, really hate the duck but geez GET HIM TO THE CLUB ASAP!! He was spot on with some of his comments. One thing he said was shut up the psychs, and the phys eders etc and just [censored] the guys on the track, just an old fashioned flogging. He also said get Viney up in front of everyone on Monday and show his tape while telling the rest of them that's how to play, although sounds like Neeld has already taken that tact a little by getting him to talk to the players after the game.

But seriously, get the duck.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
