The only way to shut them all up is win the bloody game

Featured Replies

STOP SAYING WE DO NOT NEED TO WIN TO GAIN RESPECT.

WE DO NEED TO WIN.

HONOURABLE LOSSES ARE JUST THAT.

THE OTHER TEAM WIN.

THE MFC HAS BECOME SECOND RATE BECAUSE WE COLLECTIVELY DO NOT DEMAND ENOUGH. ALL OF US.

GET IT IN YOUR HEAD. WINNING.

Collingwood are aiming at 80,000 members in 2013.

Consistently up there. Neeld was there in 2010 thankfully.

I hate honourable losses when people pat you on the back and say sorry.

Those of you at the 87 Prelim know what i mean.

We must expect that our players can win when they cross the white line.

Hallelujah to that wyl

I have been banging about this for so long I cannot remember when I started.

There is no such think as an honourable loss.

It is just a bloody loss.

This attitude has kept us down for the better part of 50 years.

Do Hawthorn , Geelong, Collingwood, Carlton have honourable losses?

Of course not they hate every loss with a vengeance.

Until we do we are not going anywhere.

Win that is all that counts.

We are going to have to put in a season chock-full of 4 qtr efforts.

But that is just for me to be happy.

WGAF about what McFarlane, Robinson, and the rest of the herd think?

Right now it is difficult to put up an argument proving them wrong.

I will say it again, with all due respect, that the journey to regaining respect does not require us to win every game, it does require us to play like we want to win every week but when we finally realise that is what is required week in week out we will be winning more often than losing anyway.

I do not accept losing,I do demand a winning mentality but I'm also realistic enough to know that this type of culture takes longer than a preseason to grow.

This season I demand that we play every game like it's our last and win, lose or draw we never give it up or not go 100% this is what grows respect amongst your peers, and that is what counts, not to be respected by morally bankrupt morons like Denham,Wilson etc.

If we can do that this year we will finish above everyone we should and be competitive against everyone else, I expect a finish about 12th with 8-10 wins and set us up for a huge leap forward in the seasons after.

Surely if we could flick on the win switch we would already have done so, but I truly feel our day is coming and is not as far away as some may think.

I agree T34 with the bold comment above

It also requires to not except that a loss is nothing more than that.

For way too long we have patted ourselves on the back when we lose to Collingwood by 1 point.

We may have as well lost by 5 goals because we did not win.

Except nothing but winning anything else does not cut it.

And as you say when we do that it will shut up all the smart arse's in the Media

Why argue?

WGAF.

I don't like losses. Personally I try to avoid them.

But don't tell me that all wins and losses are created equal.

This group is coming from so far back that if we take a small step forward (or a large one) but we happen to lose that it becomes an irrelevance simply because we did not win.

I want us to fight hard for four quarters for a change, and if that happens and we still get beat. I will lament another loss but I will take something from that and you should to.

You want a good culture?

Realise where we are coming from and notice the positives when they arrive. Reinforce them. Don't spurn them on the result.

That's it. That's my spiel. You don't have to like it, but you can be sure that that is the ethos Neeld and Craig will be pushing in our journey back to relevance so you may aswell accept it.

Agree with what you say 'rpfc' but we will get not respect or shut up the media until we start to win games. I think we need to stick fat with Neeld, Craig, Misson and co...as you say, we are coming from a fair way back. Just maybe we are a bit further advanced than some think and we will get enough wins to stick it up a few people. Pity Denham reneged on his pledge to walk from Melbourne to Perth if we won more than 5 games, he's now on the trek from SEN to South Melbourne, pretty weak effort.

I'm getting Demonland déjà vu and the season hasn't even started yet. She's gonna be a long one.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
