Is Neita Hall of Fame material?

Featured Replies

By the time his career is finished, Stephen Milne will have very similar games/goals stats to David Neitz. Would people on here be happy to see Stephen

Milne in the HOF? Probably not. So taking our MFC glasses off, I dont think he stacks up well enough in the league overall to warrant it.

If they re-did Melbourne's all time team, would Neitz make it?

Milne never played Centre Half Back and Nietz never allegedly raped anyone .

Theres two good reasons why tiprat should not be mentioned in the same breath as Nietz.

Neita is absolutely Hall of Fame material.......................every bit the player, if not better than Chris Grant who finds himself inducted!

We too harshly judge our own sometimes...................Neitz was a champion!

Neita deserves consideration, but better than Chris Grant is a huge call. Was effectively a Brownlow medallist and absolute superstar. Played all over the ground and still managed 500+ goals.

Mark Bickley, Dean Kemp, Glen Jackovitch, Michael Long.

Nieta is every bit as worthy as these inclusions for mine. The big difference is the lack of a premiership medal. And it is a rather large difference.

Nup, but as listed in various posts above plenty of those already included must surely have got there through their clubs politicing.

I suppose once you have a HoF you have to make sure its full,if only to make the ' Legends ' look really really special for those who didnt see them.

POST WAR (2nd WW)

RDB ..absolute legend

Robbie Flower...legend

Neita... Club legend

Gary Lyon...legend in his own mind

Jakovich, Jurrah...'Freak Gallery'

Jimmy Stynes...Patron Saint

Our 'freak gallery' category would be rather large.

Grant was a terrific player no doubt, but I don't consider him better than Neitz................I view them about even (Neita slightly ahead for being a Demon!)

Grant did have a great season when he polled top votes for the brownlow, but Neita also had a great season when he won the

Coleman.

I like to think I'm being unbiased, I just think there wasn't much between them as players, and for that reason, Neita deserves to be inducted too.

While I have some sympathy for your view I have zero doubt that the wider football community considers Grant had the superior career.

Grant really wasnt that good-a shocking shot at goal if the match was close.

The captaincy didn't help.

He underachieved.

Nietz was better in nearly every aspect of the game except kicking points/out of bounds.

Your post is irrelevant to the content in my post.

Slightly off topic, it's an indictment on the last 40 years of the club that there have been so few Melbourne players even worthy of consideration. A quick look at other clubs 2012 playing lists identifies many likely HoF inductees once they retire - Brisbane (Brown, Black), Geelong (Scarlett, Bartel, maybe Steve J, Enright and Selwood), Sydney (Goodes), Essendon (Fletcher), Carlton (Judd), Hawthorn (Hodge), Fremantle (Pavlich), Gold Coast (Ablett) and many others.

Neitz? Borderline for mine on pure performance but maybe gets in because of the number of games plus number of games as captain plus being awarded AA in two completely different positions.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
